"Hi."

"Here on a bad date?"

"How did you know?" I said, laughing.

"I'm sitting at the table next to you, and I'm on a date as well. In fact, I think I saw you at the speed dating event, right?"

"Oh, you were there? I didn't notice you."

"You were too busy making faces at your friend." She held her hand out. "I'm Molly."

"Nice to meet you, Molly. My name is Alice."

"I saw you got a date with Sam. He was a looker."

"Yeah, but right now, he's regaling my best friend with a horrible story about going to a strip club in Vegas, and I'm beginning to understand why he's single."

"Yeah, I kind of figured he would be a douchebag."

"Oh really? I got no clue when we were at the speed dating and then—”

"You're lucky," she said.

"Um, how did you know?" I asked her curiously.

"Well, when we're on the speed dating event, I told him that I'm between jobs and that I'm looking, and I kind of made a joke about, oh, I might even get a job at a dance club or something. Not that I would, but I just wanted to see what he'd say. I like to test guys, you know?"

"Good idea." I nodded.

"Well, he said to me he'd offer me two hundred bucks if—"

"Oh God, please don't say if you would let him motorboat you in the bathroom."

She stared at me in surprise. "No. Why would you think that?"

"Oh, because some horrible little man said that to me, but he only offered me a hundred."

"Oh, was it that short, pudgy guy calling himself Diesel?"

"Yeah, how did you know?"

"Because he offered me twenty-five dollars to give him a blow job under the table." She started laughing. "Oh my gosh, the men in New York City suck."

"Trust me, I know. And I only just got here."

"Oh, where are you from?"

"Florida. I moved here a couple of months ago. I'm looking for a job and a man, and none of it seems to be going well."

"It doesn't get easier. Let me tell you, I've been here for six months."

"Oh, where are you from?"

"California," she said, "Bay Area."

"Oh cool."

"And let's just say I'm still looking for a job as well, and obviously, I don't have a man because I was at the same speed dating event as you."
