"You're not bringing Sam." He didn't sound amused.

"And then there's Vincent."

"Who the hell is Vincent?" He sounded pissed.

"He's another guy I matched with. He actually messaged me this morning just to say hi. I haven't responded to him yet, but I..."

"He's not invited, Alice."

"But you said invite..."

"He's not invited," he said in a deeper, more harsh tone. "And I'm at work right now, so I've got to go."

"Okay," I said. "See you later."

"Bye." And then he hung up. I looked over at Molly, who was grinning at me.

"What's so funny?"

"You're totally trying to make him jealous."

"What? No, I wasn't."

"Yeah, you were," she said. "But the best part is it worked."

"What are you talking about?"

"I could hear how angry he was getting on the phone. He was totally jealous. Who was Vincent again?"

"The Asian guy. The really cute one."

"Oh, yeah."

"He was nice. I put him on my list, but he didn't match with me. I guess he wasn't interested."

"Oh, I'm sorry. Don't worry," she said, shaking her head. "There are plenty more fish in the sea. So are you interested in him?"

"I mean, he was nice. We had a good conversation. He doesn't spark fireworks in me like Foster does, but maybe I'll go on a date with him and see how it goes. And you and Foster, nothing is happening there."

"You didn't tell me what happened the other night, though," she said, raising an eyebrow.

"Well, let's just say I made a fool of myself and kind of gave him a tipsy lap dance and fell asleep." I withheld the information about being half naked.

"Oh wow. And nothing happened?"

"No, nothing happened," I said.

"Ah. I wonder if he's trying to be hands-off because you're best friends with his sister."

"Maybe," I said, "but he's also never really been interested in a serious relationship. I think feelings kind of scare him off... Well, I don't know." I looked away from her. I didn't want her to ask too many questions. I didn't want to have to tell her how I knew that much about him.

"Oh, all men are like that," she said. "They never think they want a relationship. They never want to get serious. They never want to have kids. And then they meet the one, and everything changes."

"Yeah, well, I guess he just hasn't met the one yet," I said. "But anyway, let's talk about jobs. I really need to start making some money."

"Okay," she said. "Let me show you my list, and let's see where we go from here."
