"Hi, good evening," I said.

"Hi," Rosalie said with a wide smile.

"Have you two had a chance to look at the menu?"

"Not yet," Rosalie answered. "Is there anything that you recommend?"

"Let me think," he said. "Are you into reds, whites, rosés?"

"I like red," she said. "And so does Alice."

"Yeah, we're really into reds," I agreed.

"Okay, then, well, we have a really good Merlot. It's from Napa Valley. It's a 2014."

"Okay," Rosalie said, "I think that—”

"Yeah, that's great," I said, interrupting her.

Rosalie looked at me. "I thought you preferred Cabs, Alice."

"I mean, I don't mind, whatever." I just wanted to get the conversation over and done with.

"But we also have an amazing Cabernet Sauvignon from Argentina," he said, looking at me with a smile. "It's slightly more expensive, but I will say that—"

"That's great." I interrupted him. "I'll take a large glass, please."

"We only have one size glass, ma'am."

"Oh well then, that's fine. Thank you."

"I'll have the same," Rosalie said. "Thank you."

"And would you guys like to have the charcuterie board with that as well?"

"Um, is it cheese? Meats?"

"We have an amazing selection of cheeses and meats, with some nuts and some dry fruits," he said. "If you would like to share that."

"Sure."

"Does it come with any bread or crackers?" Rosalie asked, and I glared at her. She shrugged. "I mean, I love meat and cheese, but I like to put it on something."

"It does. It comes with toasted French baguette."

"Perfect." She grinned. "Thank you."

"Yeah, thanks." Finally, he walked away.

"Oh my gosh. Alice, you are really scaring me. You seem super stressed right now." Rosalie leaned forward. "What is it?"

"Would you just promise me that—"

"I promise. Nothing you can say will make me mad at you, at least not as mad as you seem to expect I'm going to be. You're stressing out like World War 3 is coming."

I sighed. "It's bad, Rosalie. And I wish I would've told you, but—"

"Oh my gosh. Just tell me."
