Poppy started laughing then. “Oh my gosh, you’re so funny. He’s so funny, Molly. I love him.”

I glared at her. Had Poppy absolutely lost the script? What the hell was she doing? She was acting like he was my new boyfriend or my fiancé or something. Not my boss that I was hooking up with in a strictly sexual fashion. This was going nowhere. I didn’t want them to become best friends. I didn’t want them to gang up on me. This was complicating things too much. I never should have brought him with me. I should have told Poppy I couldn’t meet up with her. That would’ve been much better than this.

“Uh-oh, I think you made her mad,” Travis said, looking down at me.

I glared up at him. “I’m not mad,” I muttered.

“Uh-huh,” he said.

He was about to say something else when the maître d’ came over to us. “Hello, Poppy?”

“Yeah.”

“Your table is ready. Your party is here?”

“Yep.” She smiled and nodded at us. “We’re ready, and we’re hungry.”

“Great. Would you like to come this way?”

“We just ordered some drinks.”

“It’s fine. I’ll have them delivered to your table.”

“Okay,” she said, smiling. She beamed at me. “Come on, Molly. I’m so happy to see you. It’s been too long.”

“I know. I’m happy to see you, too.” I looked up at Travis. “Now everyone promise no more talk about Travis and myself for the rest of the night.”

“I promise,” Poppy said, beaming at me. I knew that she might have agreed to stay silent right now, but as soon as wewere alone, she was going to quiz me like I was a potential candidate forJeopardy!.

“I never make promises I can’t keep,” Travis said with a wink. “So sorry.”

Chapter 22

I was quitehappy to see that Poppy and Travis were seemingly very happy to get to know each other. Poppy sipped on her martini and looked over at Travis. There was a sparkle in her eye, and I wondered what she was going to ask him.

“So Travis?”

“Yes, Poppy,” he said as he took a bite of his steak.

“What music are you into?”

“What music am I into? Let’s see if you can guess.”

“Oh, I can definitely guess,” Poppy said, laughing. “You’re into Guns N’ Roses, and Metallica, and Korn and…”

He shook his head. “Not really. I mean, I did have my Metallica stage, and I was really into the Grateful Dead, but right now, I listen to less heavy music.”

I stared at him in surprise. “Oh really? Who do you listen to?”

“I’ll tell you two who I listen to if you tell me who you two listen to.”

I wrinkled my nose. “But that’s not fair. Poppy asked you first.”

“I mean, I don’t mind,” Poppy said. “I’m into Ed Sheeran and Rihanna, and I used to be into Maroon 5, but then Adam Levine turned out to be a cheating scumbag and…”

“Hold on a minute,” Travis said.

“Yeah?” Poppy said, taking a bite of her Caesar salad.
