He needs to get his head out of his ass, and if he keeps this shit up, I am more than happy to offer my services to do it for him. I look over at Jade to see if she caught his shitty mood. If she did, she doesn’t show it, so I decide to let it go as well. I want her to be able to enjoy tonight, I could beat the stupid out of Spencer later if he still needs it, but for tonight I want to give her this experience the right way.

I walk in behind Jade. Spencer and Rick are just inside the door, giving us enough room to enter but not leaving us behind. Then, as if on cue, everyone comes to a grinding halt as they realize who just walked in, the music still plays, and the lights are still low, but everyone knows somehow. I only watch the crowd for a moment before I pull my attention back to Jade to see how she’s handling all eyes on us.

She stands tall, just like she had in the kitchen when she came down to leave, and I can’t help the smile that pulls at my lips. She was built for this. I know the guys had reservations about her, but I’m positive she will prove them wrong, given the time, and I can’t wait to see them eat that.

I grab her hand and pull her with me as I head to the kitchen for a drink. People move out of our way as we pass, and I hear the whispers, people asking one another, “who’s the girl” and “why she’s with them? They never have girls with them.” but I ignore them. It’s none of their business, and really they aren’t asking me. They know better than that.

When we get to the kitchen, I turn to Jade, grabbing her by her waist and setting her ass up on the island counter with a wink. She glares at me, but I know she’s not really mad when she smiles at me after a moment. Even on the counter, I still tower over her. Every time I look at her, it blows my mind that someone so small can be so fierce. It would seem like Jade is full of surprises, and I can’t wait to figure them all out if she lets me.

“So what would you like to drink, Doll?” I ask as I lean my hip against the counter to her left.

“Water would be great.” She says her voice is just loud enough to be heard over the music that slams like the house's own heartbeat throughout it. I want to give her shit about being boring, but I hold my tongue and grab her a bottle of water before pulling a beer from the fridge for myself.

I crack open her bottle before handing it to her. She reaches out to grab it from me, but I don’t let go once she has it. Instead, I lean into her as she pulls the bottle toward her, leaning over her so my body is draped over hers. I let the bottle go and rest both of my hands on either side of her on the counter before I turn my head towards her, my mouth just inches from her ear.

“Don’t drink anything that isn’t sealed or that one of us doesn’t hand you.” I tell her, my voice just barely loud enough for her to hear me. I feel more than see her shiver as my breath washes over her ear, and I don’t even think before I move my mouth forward, just enough to nip at her lobe before pulling back. I don’t miss the way her breath hitches, though. It takes more restraint than I thought I was capable of to keep myself from pushing back into her and seeing how far she would let me go.

A hard smack to the back of my head has me wincing. Before I reach up to rub at the spot, Rick walks past me towards the fridge.

He doesn’t say anything as he grabs a beer and hands it to Spence before grabbing one for himself. He closes the fridge and comes around the counter to lean his ass against the counter to Jade’s right, looking out at the sea of people as he takes a long pull from his beer.

“What was that for?” I finally ask, but he doesn’t answer. Instead, he turns to look at me with a blank look on his face before raising a brow at me in question. It doesn’t take a genius to understand his silent words. He knew what I was thinking when he walked by, knew I was seconds from throwing myself at Jade and praying I was worthy. I look away from him instead of arguing. I can deny it all I want, but he knows me too damn well and based on Jade’s confused expression as she looks back and forth between us, she doesn't understand. I would like to keep it that way.

“Well, this is loads of fun, but I’m going to go now.” Spencer proceeds to down his beer before all but slamming the bottle on the counter. He grabs another one from the fridge and disappears around the corner in no time flat. Rick sighs before he roughly runs his fingers through his hair in irritation, glad to know it’s not just me who Spence seems to be pissing off lately.

“Zan!” A high-pitched female voice all but shrieking my name is the only warning I have before someone launches themselves at me. Out of instinct, I wrap my arms around them to keep them from falling and me from falling over, earning me a face full of blonde hair before the smell of Chanel practically suffocates me.

Damn it.

I look up, and my eyes meet Jade’s for just a moment before she looks down at the water bottle in her hands as if it’s somehow interesting. I don’t miss it, though, the look of disappointment that crossed her face. No matter how quickly she looked away, I know what I saw. I put my hands up as if to show I don’t want her on me, but instead of getting down like I hoped, she continues to hang off me like a fucking spider monkey.

Before I can do or say anything, she pushes herself further up my chest, and her lips are on mine.

I push her off me, hoping she will fall to the floor, but somehow she gets her feet underneath her just in time and is back in my space, pushing her chest to mine as she squeezes me and rubs up on me.

Usually, I would enjoy the attention, but right now, I just want her to get lost before I lose my fucking temper.

“What the fuck Amanda!?” I yell as I put both of my hands on her shoulders and force her back from me. She pushes against my hold as if she hopes to break free, but I easily overpower her. Even after her hands are off me and she’s arm's length away, I still keep my hands on her shoulders, holding her back. I know the moment I let go, she will snap back to me like a rubber band.

She looks up at me with a huge smile on her face as she bats her eyelashes at me like she’s trying to look flirty. I feel my face screw up as I watch her. She just looks like she has something in her eye.

Did this shit really work on me before?

Fuck, I was the dumb one in the group.

“Zany! Babe! I missed you so much!” She yells as she reaches out to me with her arms as if she expects me to wrap her up in mine. Yeah bitch, not happening, I think as I cringe at the stupid nickname, she insists on calling me.

“Amanda, where is your brother?” Rick asks her, pulling her attention away from me momentarily, and I sigh in annoyance before taking a few steps away from her.

“Oh, hey, Rick.” She says as she takes a step into his space. Rick doesn’t let girls hang all over him, never has. Amanda is pushing it with how close she is to him already, but of course, that’s not enough for her. She rests her hand on his bicep and does that weird eyelash fluttering thing again while she twists a piece of her long fake blonde hair.

“It’s been a while since I last saw you, boys.” Her voice is low as she talks to him. Anyone with eyes can see how he tensed when she laid her hand on him, but she’s either too stupid to notice or chose to ignore it because she just keeps going, moving her hand up and down his muscle.

“Amanda, I don't have time to play games with you right now. Where is Jake?” Rick asks again before he picks her hand up like it’s diseased and drops it off of his arm, crossing his arms over his chest in a clear show of “fuck off” that I’m sure Amanda won’t head.

A small chuckle has me pulling my eyes away from the mounting tension with Rick and looking over to Jade, where she still sits on the counter on Rick’s other side.

A smile pulls to my lips as I watch her lose it as a fit of giggles takes over her, she tries to hold it in with a hand over her mouth, but it doesn’t do shit. From the corner of my eye, I see Rick’s lip quirk up as well, the bastard can act as hard as he wants, but he can’t hide it from me. I’m not sure what made her laugh, but her laughter is contagious in the best way.
