We head back upstairsto where Zan had left them before he told them he was going to get a drink, but they weren’t there. Zan grabs one of the girls he said he saw them with last. The moment he touches her arm, her face lights up, but when he asks about Trent and Jade, she says they left a while ago, and she hasn’t seen them since.

We search around some more before I feel like something is off. We walk down the hall, searching in some of the other random rooms, like the billiards room and the one they play poker in, but nobody has seen them, and if they have, it was some time ago.

After we have checked just about everywhere, I suggest we head back down and check around. Zander nods, his face set in a serious expression that isn’t very common for someone whose usual moods consist of joking and killing, both usually have a smile on his face.

We’ve gone through the crowd down here and are headed through the kitchen to the halls leading to the bedrooms and more private house areas. Nowhere in the house is off limits but the basement, but these rooms are usually reserved for Jake, business, and their close friends. Most of the time, they use them for deals both in skin and drugs. I look over at Zan as we hit the kitchen and the worry in his eyes is unmistakable.

Fuck, I hope she’s not in one of these rooms, for Zan’s sake. Even more than that, I hope that if she is, she's at least there by choice.

Before we reach the hallway, Jake and a few of his guys come around the corner and into the kitchen, followed closely by Rick.

Fuck.

I highly doubted that Jade would be with him, but some part of me hoped that maybe she had gotten turned around and ended up with him when she was separated from Zan. His showing up in the kitchen without her just put a fucking halt to that idea.

Rick looks at me before he notices Zan, and I see the moment he registers his panic. His eyes dart back to me, and I nod at him knowing what he’s going to ask before he even opens his mouth. His jaw clenches, and he balls his fists but other than that, he doesn’t let anyone see his anger.

“Boys, where did your beautiful friend go? I’ve been looking forward to spending time with her all night.” He says as he looks from me to Zan, expecting one of us to answer him.

Jokes on him because we couldn’t, even if we wanted to, not that I would tell him anyway, but still.

Rick huffs, and I know we will get a fucking ear full for this later. But I just want to find her so we can fucking leave. This night has been shit since we got in the fucking car.

As if the universe can hear my thoughts, the front door opens as I think about how shitty this night has been. The people who have been a roar of sound all night go silent, and while the music still plays in the background, their lack of sound is noticeable immediately.

There aren’t many people that everyone reacts to like that, even less who should be here at this party besides the three of us and I have a feeling I know who it is even before I turn to face the door.

“Fuck.” Zan says, his voice so low I hardly make out what he said, even with him standing right next to me.

Fuck is right.

Kratos stands inside the door as the room silently gawks at him. We might be scary to everyone here because we run this part of the city, but everyone who’s anyone knows that Kratos holds almost all the damn chips for the whole city. The only person with more power than Kratos is Froggie himself, and seeing as nobody gets to deal with Froggie but Kratos, that just gives him an even more sinister reputation.

Kratos spots us quickly as he looks over the crowd of people. Not one person in this house is as large as he is, which adds to his overall intimidation and makes it impossible for him to miss us.

He walks towards us, and the whole room parts like the damn Red Sea before him, letting him make it to us in just a handful of steps.

He stops inside the kitchen, taking in everyone who stands before him before he looks back at Rick.

“Where is she?” Kratos asks; it doesn’t take a genius to know who he means.

“Kratos! Long time no see, man.” Jake says as he takes a step toward him as if they are old friends. Kratos doesn’t take his eyes off Rick as he holds up his hand to stop Jake in his tracks.

Jake isn’t the smartest guy by a long shot, but he stops, and I’m almost disappointed he did. Given the anger that all but rolls off of Kratos, he would probably kill him where he stands if he had continued.

“Roderick!” Kratos barks at him when he fails to answer. Zan and Jake both cringe at his sharp tone. Zander has always been afraid of Kratos since the first time he met him, and while most of the time I think he’s overreacting, right now, he is very right to be afraid.

“I don’t know.” Rick tells him as he meets Kratos’s angry stare without backing down. It’s not that Rick isn’t afraid of Kratos. Shit, I don’t know a single soul who isn’t, unless, of course, you count Jade. She seemed to be more into him than afraid. Rick is just the type to own his mistakes, which means no matter how bad this is about to suck, he’ll be straight with Kratos. It’s something that Kratos has always said he respected. Let's see if that respect can save our asses.

“I want her found and in this kitchen in the next twenty minutes.” He says to nobody in particular, but I know he doesn’t care who finds her as long as she’s found. Jake doesn’t seem to understand that Kratos isn’t asking and begins to walk toward the living room, where most people are dancing again. With the exception of those close to the kitchen, who look on at the shit that’s happening, hoping to get some kind of information to gossip about later, fucking rich kids. He makes it all of two steps before Kratos grips him by the back of the neck and flings him back towards us. Jake falls to the ground from the force.

“Nineteen minutes! And if she’s not here before the time is up, bodies will drop,” He looks down at Jake, who’s still on the floor, his grin wicked as Jake sees the monster that is Kratos, possibly for the first time. “Starting with yours.”

Jake scrambles to his feet before looking out towards the partygoers who happen to be watching. He gets his panic under control and walks back towards the hallway he just down, even though I can tell just by looking at him that he wants to run. Not that I blame him when his life is literally on the line.

As soon as Jake and his little followers are gone, Kratos walks up to Rick. Zan and I also walk over, waiting for orders like the good soldiers we are. Well, I guess used to be, because now that we lost the girl, I’m sure there will be consequences.

Fuck, Froggie’s going to murder us.
