Rick sighs before he gives me a nod. I know he wants to argue with me. I can see it, but for whatever reason, he decides not to, and at the moment, I don’t care why.
“I assume you will be staying here tonight to monitor her?” He asks, and while I hadn’t thought that far ahead before, I know I can’t just leave her now that he’s brought it up. I need to make sure I’m here if something happens, so I nod.
“Okay, well, I’ll stay in your room tonight, so I’m close. If anything goes wrong, just shout, and I’ll be here.” He says, and again, I nod before he walks to the door.
Before he leaves, he turns to look at me. “I wouldn’t worry too much about her, Zander. She's tough. I’m sure she will be fine.” He says before he lets himself out, closing the door behind him.
The only problem with that is I’m not sure I’m able to not worry about her anymore, and as I stand next to her bed watching her, I know it has absolutely nothing to do with the mission.

I’m notsure when I fell asleep, but I remember checking her body temperature a few times and the color of her lips. Once the blue was gone and her shivering stopped, I finally let myself have a seat on the end of her bed. I knew once I got comfortable, I could pass out, so I didn’t even sit down until I knew she was doing better.
Movement under my head pulls me further from sleep, and I sit up slowly, feeling like I just drank my weight in alcohol and tried to sleep it off. Yeah, I couldn’t have been asleep for more than a few hours tops.
I finally pry my eyes open, only to be met with Jade’s green eyes staring back at me from where she sits, leaning back against her pillows. The sheet pools around her lap, leaving her chest on full display for me, and while I would usually be ecstatic about getting time with her tits, right now, I’m just happy she’s awake.
I scramble up the bed to sit next to her. I want to wrap her up in my arms and tell her I’m sorry I let her get so bad before I stepped in. I want to apologize for allowing Spencer to question her. Shit, I just want to hold her. But the moment I make it to her, she quickly looks down.
“Hey, what's wrong?” I ask her as I lean forward, hoping to catch her eye. She doesn’t respond, instead shaking her head and turning further away from me.
After last night in the shower, I can’t handle giving her more room right now. So I reach out and gently but firmly grab her chin to turn her head back towards me, she doesn’t resist, but she still keeps her eyes downcast.
“Jade,” I say, and I don’t even try to mask the pleading tone in my voice. That seems to get her attention, and finally, she looks up at me. “Talk to me, please.”
She takes a deep breath before pushing it out as if preparing herself. “I didn’t mean to lose my shit like that. It’s been a long time since I’ve broken down like that, and it shouldn’t have been something you guys had to deal with.” She tells me and for a moment, I don’t know what to say because I was concerned for her, and she was worried about us having to see her like that. The whole thing is so ridiculous it’s almost laughable.
I smile at her and pull her into my arms before falling back onto the bed with her. She pushes herself up with her arms enough to look down at me but doesn’t try to get out of my hold. I love the feel of her skin on mine, and I would lay here all day just like this if she would let me, but that’s not what I need to focus on right now.
“Jade, everyone’s got issues. You don’t have to apologize for having a tough life. Shit, we all have. You’ve seen firsthand how untrusting Spencer is. How much Rick needs balance and to be in control, and how nuts I can be, right?” She nods even though she doesn’t seem to understand where I’m going with this. “It’s all from past shit, yours might be more than ours, but we all have baggage, don’t worry about it.” I tell her with a smile, and this time she gives me a small smile in return, and even if she’s not one hundred percent, it’s a start, and I’ll take it.
I roll us over so that she’s beneath me as I hold myself over her, supporting most of my weight on my hands so as not to squish her. Her hair’s spread out around her, and her smile is just a bit bigger now that I’ve shifted the mood. She’s fucking beautiful.
“You want to know what I’ve found is the best way to deal with a breakdown?” I ask her as I slowly lower myself until our noses are almost touching.
“What?” She says before she pushes up and plants a gentle kiss on my nose. I go cross-eyed for a moment as I watch her, and when she pulls back, she lets out an adorable little laugh that pulls a dopey ass smile to my face.
“Spontaneity!” I tell her before I let some of my weight drop on her to keep her in place as I drop my lips to her neck and alternate between nuzzling, biting, and kissing her anywhere I can until she’s laughing so hard she’s fighting to breathe.
“Okay, okay!” She yells, and I pull back just enough to let her take a few deep breaths.
“What did you have in mind?” She asks as she lifts a brow at me in question.
I push up off her and then off the bed in one quick motion.
“Get dressed and meet me in the garage in fifteen.” I tell her before I’m all but sprinting out of the room.
“Make it twenty, and you got a deal!” She yells back with laughter clear in her voice just before I make it out the door, and I stop to look back at her.
“Fifteen should be more than enough time, Doll. You only need clothes, and you're good.” I tell her, but she rolls her eyes before pulling herself off the bed.
My eyes roam over her naked body without shame. If she’s going to put herself on display, I’m not going to argue against it. Besides, it’s not like I don’t know that body already. The longer I look at her, the more I wonder if we should even bother leaving the house, I can think of a bunch of fun things we can do right here.
I finally pull my eyes back up to her face, only to find a knowing smile on her lips. Damn, she did that on purpose. Not fair.
“You were saying.” She says, the challenge clear in her tone.
“I was saying if you didn’t want to leave, you should have just said so. No need to play dirty.” I tell her as I smile back at her, letting the door fall closed as I stalk back up to her. I grab her hips and pull her to me roughly, she opens her mouth to say something, but I don’t give her a chance, instead leaning forward to seal my lips to hers.
