“I can’t make that promise princess, but what I can do, is promise to try my hardest to keep us all safe.” She smiles sadly and cups my cheek.

“I feel like all of this was for nothing, Jacob started this shit with the council because he wanted me due to the fact that I am of alpha blood and now look.”

“What do you mean?”

“I don’t want to lead Creed, the alphas all agreed to help because they were asked, not because they were forced. My brother doesn’t want to lead either, so when all of this is over, I don’t want to be alpha.” I frown at her.

“What are you trying to say princess.” She lets out a nervous breath and says.

“I want you to be alpha of the Reeves and Michelson pack, I’ll help you however I can, but I don’t want the title or the responsibility and let’s be real, you thrive off of the power and stress.” She chuckles and I playfully glare down at her. “You’re a control freak and there is no way in hell you will ever take an order from me.” I scoff.

“Would so.”

“Yeah, right. When?”

“In the bedroom, you can boss me around whenever you like.” She tries to turn and hide her face, I grip her chin and turn her to face me, the blush that coats her cheeks forces a smile from me. I capture her lips in a searing kiss that steals the breath from my lungs, I pull back and grip her face between my hands. “Thank you, princess.”

“For what?”

“For giving me another chance and for just… being you. I never thought I would ever be lucky enough to find a mate who could rival me, and challenge me, but here you are, as perfect as ever. I love you Jessica Cruz-Hastings and I want you to share the same last name as me and our son, so would you marry me and become Mrs. Jessica Reeves?” Tears trail down her cheeks and her bottom lip begins to quiver; my bravado begins to dwindle.

Did I just make a horrible mistake?

No, she is overjoyed, I can scent her happiness.

I wish Corbin’s words could reassure me, but they don’t, her silence is deafening, and I don’t think I can take it much longer!

“Princess?” She begins to smile but still doesn’t speak. “Can you answer me?” She reaches up and wraps her arms around my neck and pulls me down so she can kiss me, I get lost in the kiss for a moment until I realize she still hasn’t answered. I pull back and glare down at her. “Jessica––“She cuts me off.

“You became the center of my universe the moment you walked into that classroom all those years ago, you have been my sole focus from that moment. Well, until I gave birth to our children, but you were still there in my mind and heart. There isn’t anyone else out there for me Creed, you and I were made for each other.” I furrow my brows.

“That still doesn’t answer my question.” I growl out.

“Let me spell it out for you then Y.E.S.” I smash my lips to hers and we both laugh, I pepper kisses all over her face, I never thought I would bethatguy who falls in love and wants to get married, but Jess changed everything the moment I saw her. As soon as our eyes met, I knew it in my heart that she would be it for me, I guess it just took my mind a while longer to get the memo.

Chapter

Forty Seven

Credence

The meeting with the alphas went better than I had expected, Tomlin and five other alphas volunteered to hunt for the council and hopefully locate them. Everyone was in high spirits knowing that six alphas and at least two hundred wolves will be out scouring the country, until Davina and Vince busted into our meeting with grim looks on their faces. I trailed my gaze over them and stop when I spot the letter clutched in Davina’s hand, before she speaks, I already know who that letter is from. I cut my gaze to the twins to see they’ve taken a glimpse at the letter as well, I turn to Ro and Jess and watch as he wraps his arm around his sister. The alphas have no idea what is going on, they are more focused on Davina and Vince, this being the first time they have seen a vampire. Zeke, scurries over to Ro while Sky moves toward my sister, I stay where I am and meet Davina’s gaze. She averts her eyes and turns to my mom who is bouncing my son on her knee, her eyes soften for a moment before her mask is back in place and she meets my cold stare.

“Is there anyone that’s able to take Harlem from Meg?” My stomach drops, the tone of Davina’s voice and the look in her eyes tells me everything. I nod and turn to Z; he meets my gaze with a shocked look.

“Zeke, can you take Harlem for a walk?” He doesn’t hesitate, he moves toward my mom and reaches out to my son who goes willingly and laughs as Z puts him on his shoulders and disappears out of the room. Mom stands and comes over to me, I wrap my arm around her shoulders and pull her into my side, she is going to need my support shortly.

“Would you like to do this in private?”

“No Davina, they agreed to join us, so they have a right to know. Just say what it is you came to say and get it over with.” For the first time since learning that she is alive Davina drops her mask completely and lets us all see the pity and hurt on her face, but the hurt isn’t for herself it’s for…us. She looks between me and the twins and takes a deep breath before reading the letter.

“Before I start, I just want you all to know that this letter came with a package.” I open my mouth, but she raises her hand to stop me. “Please Credence, just listen to the letter. None of you need to see or know what is in that box, let me carry that burden for all of you.” When none of us answer she begins to read the letter.

“I told you I will never let you go Jess, you took something from me that I can never replace, and now it’s my turn to return the favor. Your so-called mate is nothing but a parasite and when I take him and his useless pack out, I will take you as my own personal mate, you will give me a new heir. I hope you enjoy the time you have left with him because his days are numbered, I hope you like the gifts I have sent; it was such a pleasure to watch them break, and then destroy what remained of them. See you son, J.M.”

The silence is deafening, my mom begins to tremble in my hold.

“I-I.” Mom stops and clears her throat before she continues. “I would like to see the package please.” I can hear it in her voice that she is close to tears, and it devastates me that I can’t save her from this heartache. I’m going to fucking kill that slimy piece of shit. Davina moves toward and reaches out to grab one of my mom’s hands, the only reason I don’t bite her head off is because I’m stunned by the look of understanding in her eyes.
