“I know where the council is!” All the shouting and growls stop upon my admission, every pair of eyes in the room is on me. I begin to fidget under the scrutiny of their watchful gazes, I hate being the center of attention, and I know that sounds stupid considering I have visions and faint at the drop of a hat. I wish I had of waited to let that information come out, but I didn’t have a choice. My plan was to let Cairo figure things out on his own but given the tension between him and us, I fear I may have to just tell him––soon.

“How?” I turn and see Jess standing beside Callie and Sky on the outskirts of the living room. It’s then that I notice each of them are holding Sky back, Sky looks like she is ready to commit murder, this woman scares the living daylights out of me.

“When I touched you, I…saw things.” I cringe at how meek and unsure I sound but I don’t want to blurt the details of her past out in front of everyone. What I saw in those visions about Jess will haunt me, what she endured and suffered isn’t something anyone should have to go through.

“What things?” I don’t take my eyes off Jess as I answer her mate.

“Things from your time as a…captive.” Jess pales at my admission, a hiss escapes Creed and guilt begins to build inside me. I hate that I feel guilt when I’m in these situations, but I can’t help that I can see into people’s pasts and futures. Jess’s features harden as she drops her hold on Sky and moves toward me, I can feel the alpha power rolling off her in waves.

“If you hurt her––.” Cass is cut off when Jess swings her gaze to him and growls.

“I would never hurt an innocent!” She turns back to me, and I can see the fear in her eyes, that look sends a cold shiver down my spine. “How much did you see?”

I swallow loudly.

“All of it.” She bites her bottom lip and nods.

“Okay, well given that this is my story, I think it’s only fair that we discuss this in private.” Jess doesn’t bother to wait for a response, she heads down the hallway with me following after her and up the stairs. We come to a stop in front of a closed door, she pulls a key from her pocket and unlocks it ushering me in before her. I marvel at the room, it’s her very own library, I run my hand along the spines of the books closest to me and inhale. The smell of worn leather and old books is like a balm to my battered soul, I don’t care what anyone says there is no better scent in this world than old books! “Have a seat.” I follow her over to the couches set up near the window, the tension amplifies as we sit here and stare at each other, to say this is an awkward moment would be an understatement.

“I’m sorry.” I blurt.

“Sorry for what?” My temper begins to spike.

“You misunderstand me, I am not apologizing for seeing what I did.”

“Then why are you sorry?”

“Because I saw what you endured at the hands of that man Jacob, no one should ever go through what you did.” She inhales a sharp intake of air, clearly, she wasn’t expecting that response.

“You aren’t as meek and timid as you portray yourself to be, are you?” I smirk.

“I was raised by an alpha and have three alpha heirs for brothers, I have learnt pretty fast how to cope with making myself seem timid and less of a threat to their beasts.” She sits back and crosses her leg over the other, she runs her gaze over me as if trying to gauge my deepest secrets, she won’t find what she is looking for, I’m used to keeping all my feelings locked away.

“Why do I get the feeling that you wouldn’t be here with my brother if you didn’t want to be?” I make sure to keep my face blank.

“I don’t know what you mean.” Her features harden and her eyes flicker between hers and her wolf’s.

“Cut the shit, you know exactly what I mean.” Her voice is course from her wolf being so close to the surface, I can see she is used to everyone submitting to the alpha in her, but she won’t get my submission––She can’t.”

“I owe you nothing.”

“Finally, now your true colors are starting to shine. You can try to keep up this sweet and innocent act, but it won’t work on me, why the hell are you really here Belle?” I lean forward and rest my elbows on my legs making sure to meet her gaze.

“My reasons are my own––.” She growls in annoyance.

“If you plan to hurt my brother––.” I cut off her bullshit spiel.

“I’m not here to fucking hurt him, I’m here to stop him andherfrom ruining the shifter race. I promise you that once I do what I came here to do, I will leave, I will never return to your pack lands, and in return, no one will ever come for me or my family again!”

Chapter twelve

Cairo

Irefusedtoeatdinner with the others, Jess and Belle both refused to tell any of us what was said earlier between them. I didn’t push my sister for answers and the three bitches that came with Belle made sure she was tucked away from me until I disappeared into my room. Jess, Creed, Sky and the twins are having dinner at Meg’s house tonight and I overheard Zeke telling Cass and the other two that he would take them out tonight so they could shift, which means it will just be me and Belle here, which gives me the chance to make her tell me what she saw and what she and my sister spoke about earlier. Before I can get too lost in my own head my phone vibrates, I pull it out of my pocket and see that it’s Bodie.

Bodie –We have set up on the east side of the property in the woods so we can shift.

Me –Make sure that you all stick to the outskirts of the property and don’t come inland.
