The ride to the store was filled with so much tension, my nerves are frayed, Creed took pity on me and got the tests––yes, tests! As in plural, he said to be safe he brought one of each, so I sit here in the passenger seat with thirteen different tests on my lap. I can’t stop my leg from bouncing, his phone rings and he connects it through the Bluetooth system in the car and answers.

“Hello.”

“Don’t fuckinghellome asshole! Where the fuck are you, and Belle better be with you!” I cringe at the anger in Cairo’s voice, Creed on the other hand doesn’t even seem fazed by it.

“Doesn’t it suck ass when your mate disappears?” Cairo growls and I cover my ears as the sound of it vibrates through the car, Creed laughs. I stare at him like he is a maniac.

“I’ll fucking end you if you run with her––.”

“Calm the fuck down dick.” Creed darts his eyes to me quickly before continuing. “Belle needed––.” I stop breathing, his gaze softens before he focuses back on the road. “Some tampons, I was around, so I offered to drive her to the store.” A rush of air escapes me.

“Hurry the fuck up.”

“Cairo?”

“Yeah?” A sly smirk crosses his face as he says.

“Eat a dick you little bitch.” Then ends the call, I gape at him like he has lost his damn mind.

“He is going to be pissed at you.” Creed shrugs his shoulders.

“Cairo is always pissed; you’ll get used to it. From what I have seen, you seem to have a knack for pissing off the grumpy bastard." I scoff.

“He saysyou’rethe grumpy bastard.” Creed chuckles.

“Nah, I used to be but then…Jess changed everything. She gave me a reason to smile, and then when I found out about Harlem, my whole world shifted. I have nothing to be angry about anymore, I have the most amazing kid and his mother is the light of my life. I have every reason to be grateful now.” My heart longs for what he has, a family, someone that looks at me the way he looks at Jess.

“I envy you.” I whisper as I stare out the window, I feel his gaze on me, but I don’t want him to see the tears in my eyes.

“Cairo loves you Belle, anyone with eyes can see that.”

“I know he does.”

“Then why are you so upset?” I sigh, out of everyone in this group I have found myself a part of I never thought I would be having this conversation with Creed. I refuse to face him, I’m to chicken.

“Because what if these tests are positive? I overheard Cairo and Zeke talking a few weeks ago, he said he never wanted kids, plus, he has only just figured out that he isn’t in love with Sky, never really was apparently.”

“Okay, that is a lot.” He chuckles but there’s no humor to it. “Sky and Cairo are the dynamic duo; they share a love no one will ever understand, and honestly Cairo just loved the idea of loving someone. Sky is great don’t get me wrong, but Ro never stalked her, chased her or even looked at her the way he does with you.”

“How do you know that?”

“My wife is a well of knowledge.” We both chuckle. “I think you will be surprised at his reactionifyou are pregnant. If he clowns out, then Jess and I will be here for you and the baby, I’m sure your brothers and father will do the same thing. You and your family are always welcome at our pack Belle.” A stray tear rolls down my cheek, I swipe it away and turn to face Creed.

“Thank you, I didn’t know I needed to hear that.”

“Don’t get used to it kid, I’m not the deep and meaningful type.” I cringe at him calling me kid. We pull into the driveway, and I can already see Cairo standing at the end.

“How am I going to get this past him?” I whisper afraid that his shifter hearing will hear this far.

“You’re not, go to him and I’ll meet you in your room shortly.”

“Thank you.”

“Your family, it’s what we do for each other.” Creed pulls the car to stop, and I slip out leaving the bag behind, Cairo’s gaze trails all over me as if he is checking for any sign of injury. I stop in front of him and hold his stare, I open my mouth but am rendered speechless when his hand snakes out and wraps around my throat applying enough pressure to slightly restrict my airway. My eyes bulge as I begin to panic, I hear the car door slam behind me and heavy footfalls racing toward us. I spy Creed out the corner of my eye and try to implore him without words to help me, Cairo still hasn’t shifted his gaze from me.

“Let her go.”

“Where were the two of you?” The fact that Ro can sound so calm scares the shit out of me.
