Taking a step toward me, he held my hips, pressing himself into me. “You are the only person with the right to tell me to quit anything.” He leaned forward, grazing his lips against mine. “I would kill for you, and I would die for you.”

I snorted. “If you don’t stop smoking, you’ll definitely do oneof those things.”

“Why do you have to be so adorable?” His gaze tightened as he smirked. “How long have you suspected?”

Ignoring his first question, I rolled my eyes. “For a couple of weeks, but only just found out for sure. I just,” I sighed, “didn’t know how you’d take the news. You’re so busy and important and—”

He let out a mocking laugh. “Shut up.” He buried his face in my nape, kissing my chilly skin. “You’re so much more important than anything that goes on out here.” He pointed up and circled his finger. “Don’t you ever feel you can’t tell me anything. Am I clear?”

I nodded as he pressed his lips to my neck again. Tilting my head, I offered him better access, moaning as he reached for my mound, pressing his fingers through the dress fabric. My gaze focused on the sound of heels clicking on the path in the distance. Lindsay was rapidly approaching. Letting out a sigh, I put my hands on Valentino’s chest, stopping him. He straightened his posture, adjusting his suit and tie. Then, he cleared his throat as he slid his hands into his pockets.

“Uh, sorry.” Lindsay apologized as she shifted her weight, darting her eyes between us. “We have a press situation inside and Joseph asked me to come find you, Mr. Greco.”

Valentino gave her a single nod and turned to me. “You’re still the most import—”

“Go, it’s okay.” I nodded my head toward the house. “This is different, I know.”

He pressed his lips into mine before assaulting my tongue with his. He did not shy away from affection for me in front of her, which made me feel better. Placing his hands on my stomach, he placed his lips next to my ear. “Iamreally happy.”

As he trailed Lindsay closely, I was left alone once again, drowning in my thoughts about Noah’s words. Valentino seemed to think she was a good asset, or at least he had not complained about her once. He would have fired her immediately if he felt she was not capable of her job. I groaned, burying my face in my palms. Just as I was about to turn to walk inside, I jumped at the presence of another person.

“God, you scared me to death, Noah. How are you sneaky?” I placed my hand on my chest and attempted to catch my breath. “Why are you out here?”

“Sneaky is one of my specialties, but it’s also my job to follow you, Miss Ayala. I lost you until I saw the snake slithered out here to pull Mr. Greco away.”

I rolled my eyes, wrapping my arms around my body.

He leaned on a Roman statue, holding up a cigarette. “Mind if I smoke?”

“You’re far enough away.”

He bowed his head and mumbled as he lit it. “Good.” He took a long drag, then held it to his side. The smoke drifted out of his mouth. “I found out some info.”

“You did?” I took a step closer, then back again.

Nodding, he lifted the cigarette to his lips inhaling again. As the smoke lingered around his face, he squinted as it burned his right eye. “And I’m not sure you’re going to like it.”

“Tell me!”

“Whoa calm down, Miss Aya—”

“Noah,” I spoke much calmer, “please tell me.”

“It seems that your fiancé and her have a past together.” He cocked a brow as he took another drag.

“WHAT?!” My eyes instantly swelled with tears.

“Shhh.” He waved his hand.

I took a step closer.

Dropping the cigarette to the ground, he exhaled and nodded. “It’s true.”

“What the hell do you mean?”

He shrugged. “I haven’t figured that part out yet.”

“He didn’t tell me they had a past.” A single tear rolled down my cheek. “Why would he lie to me?”
