He collapsed on top of my body in frustration and shoved his face into the pillow next to my head. “Ughhh.”

I giggled, whispering. “It’s okay, baby.”

“I hate being rich.” He muttered as he stood and pulled his pants up. “Everyone always wants something from me.”

I laughed louder than I should have. He held his hand out and pulled me off the bed to my feet. I adjusted my skirt then my top. He gave me an approving nod.

“No, you don’t hate it.” I rolled my eyes.

He bobbed his head from side to side. “Well, I don’t hate it whenyouwant something from me.” He winked and turned to the door when he saw I was presentable. “Come in!”

Joseph entered the room looking flustered. “Vale...Mr. Greco we need to talk about Lindsay.”

Valentino finished buckling his belt and lifted his chin. “Come in and shut the door.”

Joseph closed the door and approached us.

“You can speak as friends.” Valentino checked his own reflection in the mirror as he smoothed his hair.

“You have to cancel the masquerade, V.” Joseph spoke so informally that I was taken a bit by surprise. It was very rare for them to be this way and I do not think I had ever heard Joseph call himV. It brought back instant memories and I would have smiled except Valentino interrupted my thoughts.

“Because of my past?” He looked down at me and pulled me into his side, sliding his hand down to my bottom. “What do you think, amore?” He rolled his tongue over his bottom lip, giving my rear a squeeze, knowing when he spoke Italian in any form, my pantries became wet.

“Before you answer or this gets weird,” Joseph lifted his hands, “let me tell you why.”

We both turned our attention to him.

“It turns out that she called the media and tipped them off about this secret ball and they will have spies planted all over the place that night.”

Valentino pulled away from me and shoved his hands in his pockets. He then meandered over to the window and gazed out for a few moments before spinning around on heels and shrugging. “Okay, so cancel it.”

“But there’s more.”

“Of course, there is.”

I watched them like a tennis match.

“V, listen, we have to cancel it!”

“Why?!”

Their voices were getting louder.

“Felipe bought a ticket to the event!”

I gasped.

“Don’t cancel it.” Valentino tightened his gaze on mine before he focused on Joseph once again with an evil grin. “It appears we now have our plan.”

Joseph pushed his hands onto his hips and exhaled. “I was afraid you’d say that.”

“Care to share?” I folded my arms, my eyes darting back and forth at them.

“Felipe is going to die at the masquerade, amore. For now, I need to go handle Lindsay, are you coming?”

Joseph and I followed him back down to the office without saying a word. Joseph did glance at me a few times as if he were trying to communicate with me silently. I shook my head, indicating I had no idea what he was trying to tell me. Before we entered the office, Valentino turned to me.

“I want you to stand by Noah in case anything happens.” He did not give me time to reply because without further delay he spun back around and threw the double doors open.
