Okay, boss.Noah nodded as if Valentino could see him.

Isabelle?Valentino called out from the speakers.

Yeah?

I love you.

I love you too.I teared up.Is Joseph hurt?

He’s alive but hurt. See you guys soon.

He hung up immediately and the car became silent. Tanya and I exchanged a glance then I heard Laura sniffle. I glanced up to see Noah reach over, placing his hand on her thigh for a moment before grabbing the wheel with both hands.

“I need you guys to brace yourselves. I’m about to lose these guys. If you need to vomit, there’s bags in the door pockets.”

Secrets

By some miracle, Noah managed to lose the car about halfway to the airport. He sped through the private terminal gate safely, coming to a skidding stop on the back side of the airplane hangar. Three men in black suits approached the car and opened our doors for us.

“Miss Ayala.” The tallest of them bowed his head at me.

“Hi.” I smiled, remembering his friendly face from the many times we had traveled.

He turned to Noah. “Mr. Greco called and wants everyone ready for departure by the time he arrives.”

Worry overcame me and I turned to Noah. He hovered a hand over my lower back as he lifted his chin toward the jet parked outside the hangar. “We need to go. Your man’s orders.”

The staff got the luggage and Aston’s car seat as we hurried to the plane. I glanced at my watch to check the time. Valentino had not given much of a window to make it here before he ordered us to leave.Damnit, where are you?I sighed.

Felipe was out there somewhere. Though I was still confident, I was frightened. It was a constant battle. Emotionally, I was done with it and ready to end him. Physically, glass sometimes still came to the surface of my body that reminded me what happened.

As I shuffled my feet back and forth, Laura and Tanya boarded the plane with the baby and got settled. Noah stood a few feet away from me at the bottom of the plane’s stairs, examination his watch. His eyes kept darting toward the private entrance as he watched the seconds tick by.

“Miss Ayala, you need to board the plane and wait. I’ll be here until the last second, don’t worry.”

“I’m fine right here.” I folded my arms. My impatience turned to worry. “What will happen with Joseph?” I gasped. “Won’t he need medical attention?”

Lowering his hand, he spun to face me with a serious expression. “Board the plane…please! Let me handle this.”

Noah was in the right. I knew standing there worrying about Valentino would only delay us if we had to leave instantly. Valentino was highly skilled at what he did for a living, both officially and criminally. It was in my nature to feel unease about those I cared so much for. However, if anyone would be okay and make it through it, it would be him.

Lowering my gaze, I rolled my eyes as I veered to walk up the steps. I did not want to make Noah’s job harder. A tear rolled down my cheek as I glanced down at my watch, realizing there were only seven minutes left for them to get here before we were ordered to depart without them.

I trudged down the center aisle of the plane, plopping into a seat in the back, away from Tanya and Laura. The camel-colored leather seat squeaked as I drew my knees into my chest, wrapping my arms around them. Hugging my legs, I cradled my phone while staring out the window.

Noah had returned to his original stance, holding his wrist up in front of his face as he stalked the entrance. Laura and Tanya were discussing motherhood in the middle of the plane. All I could think about was raising my child in the middle of a war between my uncle and my fiancé. It was hard to understand why Felipe was so focused on hurting me after so long. He could have just disappeared and left us alone.

Come on Valentino. Where the hell are you guys?I was so preoccupied looking outside for any sign they had arrived, I jumped when I felt a hand on my shoulder and a body settle next to me. I did not bother to glance back. Arms wrapped around my neck. I leaned back on Laura’s shoulder.

“They’re going to make it on time, girl.”

I sighed and twisted sideways. Laying my head against the window, I peered out longingly with prayers running through my mind. “I know.” I mumbled, inhaling a shaky breath, “but I still worry.”

“It’s going to be okay.”

“This—” I paused trying to find my words as I glanced at her, “—all this is my fault.”

She shook her head, rubbing my back in a large circle. “Isabelle, my brother loves you unconditionally so that means whatever you guys go through, he’s got your back. It doesn’t matter what it is. You guys are insanely in love and love knows no bounds with him when it comes to you. I’ve never seen him this way about anyone.”
