Noah snorted. “We’re in the air, you’re in pain, and you aren’t working so much.”

The corner of my lip twisted into a faint smirk. “He’s not wrong.”

Ignoring him, Noah poured whiskey in the empty glass and slid it in front of Joseph on the other cocktail napkin. Joseph swirled it around then set it back down in front of him. Silently, they both stared at me for a moment before I became annoyed.

“What?” I slouched back in my seat, taking another drink.

They exchanged a glance before Joseph spoke. “It was too easy.”

I cocked my head, lowering my drink.

“We were discussing that up front. I know that’s why you’ve been so quiet, and I agree. Something isn’t right.” Joseph chuckled in disbelief. “Something is definitely fucked up and off.”

“That’s what I just can’t put my finger on.”

“Want me to make a call when we land?” Noah crossed his arms over his chest.

“To who exactly?”

“Emilio.”

“Rovati?” I snorted.

He nodded. “Between the two of us, we can get this figured out.”

“Noah, we must discuss yourentirepast…soon.” I shook my head, placing the glass to my mouth and chugging the remaining liquid. “I want Isabelle to be able to live in peace without worrying about who or what might be lurking in the shadows waiting to get her. Liam and Tanya’s wedding is coming up and absolutely nothing better ruin it either.”

Joseph glanced back at the girls over his shoulder before leaning forward. “I’ve already spoken to him about that. It’s covered. Don’t worry.”

Giving a satisfied nod, I craned my neck to see Isabelle stirring. She stood, stretching with a yawn before digging her finger into the corner of her eyes. I made sure Joseph and Noah understood we were not longer speaking privately. Isabelle struggled with her balance for a moment before faltering toward us. She placed her hand on the back of the seat next to mine, smiling.

“Are you guys discussing anything I shouldn’t hear?”

“No, bella.” I smirked. “Sit.” I adjusted my posture, sitting up straighter.

She took a seat next to me. Bringing her knees to her chest, she hooked her arm around mine and rested her head on the side of my arm. “Then this has to do with Felipe, doesn’t it?” She rolled her head back, glancing up at me.

Pursing my lips, I gnawed the inside of my cheek.

“I figured.” She turned her attention to Joseph. “Is there extra security for their wedding?”

Joseph nodded. “Don’t worry about anything. I assure you it’s all going to be fine, as will the masquerade.”

“I trust you.” Isabelle sighed.

Joseph, knowing I liked my alone time with Isabelle on the plane, stood. He then tapped the back of his knuckles on Noah’s shoulder. “We’ll give you guys some privacy.”

“Of course.” Noah stood and moved to the side so Joseph could get out then followed him toward the front of the plane. First, he made sure to turn around and secure the privacy curtain. Shaking his head, he rolled his eyes before he disappeared.

I turned my neck toward Isabelle. She gazed up at me with a smile before stretching up to press her lips to mine. Pulling the armrest up, I secured it between the seat backs, allowing more room for us to be close. Holding her wrist, I pulled her onto my lap so she was facing me.

“Did you sleep well?” I placed a small peck on her forehead.

“I did but had weird dreams.”

“Do you to talk about it?”

She shook her head, placing her lips next to my ear. “I just want to enjoy all the alone time I have with you.”
