Valentino took my hand in his, pulling me close. We exchanged a quickgoodbyewith the event planner before Joseph guided us out of the room. Valentino’s assistant and Noah shadowed watchfully behind as we trekked down the hallways and through the lobby to the exit.

Joseph pressed his earbud. We’re on our way out now.

Two doormen opened a set of enormous glass doors next to the rotating entrance. Just as we stepped outside, Morrison jumped out of the driver’s seat and hurried around the car, opening the back door. Noah and Joseph stood back letting the rest of us in first before they followed.

The car was quieter than normal. Noah and Grace sat across from us. Noah’s elbow was propped on an armrest as he stared out the window. Grace busied herself on her phone as always, making sure Valentino’s agenda was all in order. Joseph was also focused on his phone for a moment.

“Are you hungry?” Valentino whispered toward me.

I shook my head, meeting his gaze. “I’m fine.”

As he got ready to respond, Joseph handed Valentino his phone. “You guys can eat on the way.”

“On the way where?” I stretched my neck out, tilting my head.

Valentino handed Joseph back his phone. “Looks good. Email it to me.” He twisted his head toward me. “I’m taking you away for few days.”

“What about the masquerade?”

“We’ll be back the day before.”

“Where are we going?” I twisted my body sideways in the seat, crossing my ankles.

“Home.”

“Italy?”

He nodded, smiling. “Is that okay with you?”

My eyes widened, my mouth fell agape with a grin but my face became serious. “I didn’t pac—”

“Helen packed for us. The luggage is already in the trunk.”

“What about the doctor needing to clear me for travel?”

“I called this morning. You’re not high risk, so you’re good for another few months.”

I snickered. “You’re the sneakiest person I have ever met.”

The statement made him proud. He pursed his lips, attempting to hide the small smirk trying to appear on the corner of his lips. Clearing his throat, he turned toward Grace. “Are the meetings all moved?”

She glanced up. “Yes, sir. Almost. I have three more to move but those won’t be an issue.”

“Thank you.”

Traffic was terrible on the way to the airport, but we finally arrived. The limo came to a stop on the tarmac near the plane. Grace stayed in the car while Joseph and Noah escorted us onto the plane. Three other security men were already waiting, sitting toward the front.

Noah and Joseph both took a seat next to them. Valentino guided me toward the back. We sat in a private area and the flight attendant soon appeared next to Valentino’s aisle seat.

“Good afternoon, Mr. Greco and Miss Ayala. What beverage can I get for you before departure?”

Valentino glanced at me, placing his hand on top of mine. “Baby?”

I smiled, peeking at him before shifting my gaze at her. “None, right now thank you. I have water in my bag.” I nudged my handbag with my elbow.

“I’ll have the usual when we reach cruising.” Valentino offered her a stoic expression.

“Very well.” She spun on the balls of her feet and sashayed toward the front of the plane.
