Glaring at me, he waited for me to spill every detail. Folding his arms, he bit the inside of his cheek. Exhaling, this was not a conversation that I wanted to have but Alessandro was exceptionally intelligent. Hiding anything from him was impossible.

“What do you want me to say?”

“How about the fucking truth!”

I shook my head, averting my gaze, remembering the traumatic moment Marco collapsed in front of me, and it being the last time I saw him.

“I'm protecting you by not telling you,” I sighed, plodding to the doorway before I paused, not glancing back his way. “Follow me.”

We made our way down the hall to the kitchen. I pulled out a bottle of whiskey and two glasses, pouring us both a drink. He instantly gulped his down then grabbed the bottle, refilling it all the way to the brim this time.

I took a sip of mine, rolling my eyes. “If you think you're staying here tonight--.”

He interrupted me with a chuckle, “No, I have to get back to Jersey.”

Just as he was finishing his sentence, my eyes caught a small motion in the doorway. Isabelle stood, leaning in the archway, with her arms folded against her. Alessandro's eyes followed mine. He propped on his elbow, smiling at her as his eyes hungrily trailed every inch of her body. I began to feel anger rise within me.

“Well hello there,” he greeted her with a shit eating grin that charmed absolutely everyone he met.

She stepped into the kitchen, holding up her hand in a small, shy wave, “Hi.”

Quickly making her way to me as smoothly as she could, she wrapped her arms around me, and I held her against my body. Her gaze lifted, meeting mine.

“I couldn't sleep but I did finish up a project I wanted to work on,” she winked, knowing she had defied my orders.

“We will have to discuss that in a little while then,” I poked her side, smirking.

“You must be Isabelle?” Alessandro introduced.

“I am,” she grinned sheepishly.

“Il tuo corpo e' perfetto,” he winked at her.

Isabelle tilted her head toward me with confusion on her face, “What did he say?”

I glared into his eyes, “He wants me to punch him.”

Alessandro raised his palms, snickering, “I am just joking.”

“You’re Alessandro, right?”

He flickered his eyes back to Isabelle, nodding, “You can call me Alessio.”

Isabelle smiled, approvingly.

He continued, “So, you are the infamous girlfriend my brother refuses to introduce to the family."

“I have been recovering.”

“Right, right,” he nodded.

I sighed, “I haven't exactly had time lately.” I rested my glass on my lips. “I have been a little busy with the recent situation.” I took a drink.

Before I could stop him, he addressed Isabelle, inquiring, “And, what do you think about all this, Isabelle?”

She opened her mouth to speak, but I cut her off, gently squeezing her hand. “Darling, would you please give me some time with my brother?” I placed a kiss on her forehead.

She nodded before turning to him. “It was nice meeting you.”
