I silently nodded as we both stood. He grabbed his keys and briefcase off his desk. Resting his hand on my lower back, he guided me to the office door. As we stepped out, he closed it, locking it in the process. He strode over to his assistant's desk, propping on the elevated surface. I stood back a little out of the way as not to cause another problem while he finished his call.

Turning to me, he held his arm out to the side, murmuring. “Come here.”

I stepped over, planting myself next to him. He reached around my waist, resting his fingertips on my hip, glancing at me before turning his attention to his assistant.

“Samantha you and Isabelle met already.”

She smiled, staring at me, but her eyes no longer appeared warm and welcoming. They were so cold and piercing, appearing as though they could cut a metal door in half. She quickly shot a glare toward his fingertips on my side, gripping the edge of her desk until her knuckles turned white. Slowly, she grinned as her gaze tore away from my body to his eyes.

"Yes, we have,” she pursed her lips.

Crossing his arms, he took a more professional stance, clearing his throat and standing straight. “Good.”

She turned her attention back toward me, glaring with a smirk, judging my appearance. I pretended as if I did not notice, focusing my attention on Valentino while politely nodding. For a moment it was as if he narrowed his eyes at me, studying me before he focused his interest on her once again.

“Samantha, follow me for a moment please.” He smiled toward me. “This will only take a minute.”

I nodded then averted my eyes for a second before watching them walk through the lobby and disappear into another room. Just before he closed the door behind them, she evilly grinned in my direction, winking as if to rub their private meeting in my face.

She was visibly flawless, so it was no surprise to me that a man of his status would want to be with a woman such as her, even if for a moment. Maybe there was something I was not aware of. Why would he take me out if they were an item of any sort? Maybe he was just a player.

I was not going to dwell on that. We just met and he was about to take me to dinner. I just passed out in his office during a job interview, so if he had sex with her right now and canceled our date, I totally deserved it. I heard noises coming from the room as if things could not be more uncomfortable for me. I awkwardly shifted my weight, stroking my forearm, wondering if I should cut my losses and run out of the building.

The door flew open and she stomped toward her desk, grabbing her handbag. Her eyes focused on mine and she marched to where I stood. Crossing my arms, I waited for her to speak, pretending to carry confidence but truthfully, I had no idea what to expect from her. She gritted her teeth as she pursed her lips.

“You bitch!”

My eyes widened, but I did not move, holding my ground.

“You think you're thefirst girl to come through here for him?!” she snapped. “No! And you definitely won't be thelast, you whore!”

One of the security guards sprinted toward her, grabbing her wrist just as she was about to slap me. He and another man I had not seen before, pulled her down a long hall into another room. Valentino emerged from the room he had been in, looking rather flustered. I did not know whether to ask what was going on or just let it go. I chose to let it go. We had only just met, and his life was not my business.

He watched me as if he were waiting for me to interrogate him, but I said nothing, only smiling ever so slightly. I did not dare speak about what just happened. It felt awkward to bring it up.

“After you, bella,” he offered, gesturing toward the elevator.

Nodding, I smiled as we walked toward the doors, stepping in with two men. I did not speak but Valentino kept glancing my way. He seemed a bit nervous, but I assumed it was because of what had just happened upstairs. The descending elevator seemed to take an eternity. He loosened his tie, pulling his phone out of his pocket, texting.

DING!

The doors opened. We stepped into the lobby then walked outside to a waiting limo by the curb. Valentino stopped, whispering something into Joseph's ear while slyly slipping a piece of paper into his palm with a handshake. Confused why he was speaking with one of my bodyguards, I chewed the inside of my cheek as I started to think.

Before I became too absorbed in my thoughts, Valentino swiveled around walking toward me with a grin spread across his face, holding his hand out. I tilted my head. He rolled his eyes, smirking.

“Come on.”

Before sliding in, I spun to Joseph.

“We will be in the car behind you,” he assured, pointing to the car parked behind the limo. “It's okay.”

I gave Joseph a puzzled look then slowly turned back to Valentino. He wrapped his fingertips around the back of my hand as he helped me into the limo like a gentleman, before sitting next to me. The driver closed the door and we were off to dinner, or so I thought. I glanced over and Valentino’s elbow was propped on the window and he played with his lip while staring outside.

“Where are we going to go eat?”

Facing me, he smiled an unforgettable grin, “I have a plan.” He picked up his phone and began to text.

Uh, okay? And?He was so mysterious. I sat quietly, at a loss for words. If this was his idea of a dramatic pause, then he just got the world record. He peeked at me, chuckling in a deep voice.
