“Nick,” Dimitri muttered.

“I was tracking him.”

“What?!” I snapped, glancing between them. “What is happening? What do you—”

“Here you go.” Maddie handed me a couple of ice packs and a wad of cold, wet paper towels.

Vincenzo stood, peering down at me. “Who’d you come with?”

“Isaac and Aiden.”

Scowling, he turned away. “I’ll go talk to them.”

I didn’t have it in me to ask what he planned to tell them. I just wanted to lie down. My head was throbbing, and I wasn’t sure if I was more confused or angry. Maddie stepped over, taking the paper towels from my hands and begin cleaning my face.

“Thanks,” I sighed.

The atmosphere in the room was tense. I stared ahead while she wiped my cheeks and forehead, inhaling a sharp breath when she glided the towel over a wound.

“You’re a lucky girl, Eliza,” Dimitri murmured.

Maddie wanted to say something. I knew that look well. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath. “Asshole.”

“I didn’t know,” I whispered.

“The professor?”

I nodded.

“Shit,” she hissed.

Vincenzo marched into the room once again. “The guys are taking you home in your car, Maddie. They took the train here.”

She snapped her gaze to Dimitri, who offered a single nod.

Vincenzo looked down at me. “You’re riding with me.”

Silently, I stood. Maddie leaned forward, wrapping her arms around my neck.

“Call me and let me know you’re okay,” she muttered in my ear.

“I’ll be fine, but I’ll text you as soon as I can.”

“DILF is gonna be so pissed.”

Backing away, I puffed out my cheeks, expelling a long breath.

“Eliza, here you go.” Antonio strode in, holding my handbag out like a dirty diaper. “You dropped this in the alley. The guys grabbed it for you. Make sure everything’s there.”

Shuffling through my pocketbook, I noted each item and even checked the inside of my wallet. Nodding, I peeked up. “It’s all here.”

A satisfied expression appeared on his face as he lit a cigarette and gazed at Maddie. “You need to take off tomorrow?”

She shook her head. “I’m good to come in.”

“Good, we’d miss you.” He winked.

Vincenzo took my hand in his, entwining his fingers with mine. “We should go.”
