He grinned. “But you’re saying we’re a couple.” He started the truck.

“Aren’t we?”

“We sure are, Sammy. I think we always have been.”

Her heart swelled and lifted her off her seat. She was free floating in bliss.

George sniffing her hair brought her back to the ground. “So George insisted on coming, huh?”

“Not really. But I haven’t been home much lately, and I knew this would be a late night, so I didn’t want to leave him.”

“Late night? How long is the play?”

“I don’t know, but I thought I should take you out for a bite afterward, and then I’ll drive you home, and then I’ve got to get back to Carver Harbor. So it’ll be late.”

“Things will be so much easier once I’m living in Carver Harbor again.” She held her breath, waiting for him to sayDon’t rush itorAre you really going to move there?

“They sure will be.”

She relaxed. Good. She had no idea where she would live yet, but he was okay with her moving back there. She never thought she’d be excited to go back to her childhood town. Her parents didn’t even live there anymore. Neither did any of her family, and yet it still felt like coming home.

She chuckled. “Remember how excited we were when we moved to Hartport?”

He joined her in laughing. “I sure do. We acted like we were moving to the big city.”

“We were in a way. And yet now I’m glad to be going back to even smaller town living.”

“I’m relieved to hear you say that. I would move for you if you needed me to, but I really like my job.”

“Good. I’m happy to move there. I promise.”

“What about your church? I don’t want to take your flute playing away from you. We only have an organist at my church, so it would be pretty weird to have you playing with her.”

That didn’t sound so weird. “Do you think she’d let me play with her? Or I guess I should say, would anyone have a problem with it?”

“No, I’m certain that they would love it.”

“Well then let’s ask.”

He sneaked a glance at her. “Won’t you miss your team?”

“I’ll miss Harry. But I definitely won’t miss Tiffany. Sorry, God.”

“What about the guitar player? He was pretty funny.”

“Yeah, Jake. He is funny. But he’s kind of a nut.”

Brent laughed. “Aren’t we all?”
