“Home, angel. We’re home.”

He pulled the blindfold from my eyes, the sun blinding me for a moment. He took my hand in his and waved the other out in front of us dramatically, showing me what we were standing in front of.

My mouth fell open.

“Tanner, what did you do?”

He pulled me against him and kissed me slowly until my legs went weak. When he leaned away, his eyes danced with mischief. “I bought you a house, Em.”

“What the fuck? Sorry, I mean, you bought a house for us?” I questioned.

“Nope.” He grabbed my hand, leading me towards the huge security gate that surrounded the property, typing in a code and waiting for the gates to open. You could see the side of the house from the gate, but as we walked down the pebble-covered drive, the full thing came into view, and I couldn’t contain the gasp that fell from my lips.

“Do you like, angel? I bought it for you. It’s in your name. You own it outright. I have nothing to do with it.”

“Ah, okay, like a tax break or something.”

“Nope.”

I turned to him. “Then I don’t understand. Don’t you want to live with me?”

“Do you remember when I asked you what you wanted from life and you told me a house? One that was all yours and no one could take away from you?”

“Yes,” I whispered, remembering my dream.

“Well, this is it. I want you to feel safe. To have somewhere that no one can ever take from you. I want to spend my life with you, Emmy, but I also want you to know that you have a place that’s all yours. I will live here with you, but the name on the deed is yours. I don’t think I’ll ever slip again, or do something stupid, but no matter what happens with us, you still have a place that’s all yours.”

I stared at him, lost for words before I turned to gaze up at the house in front of me. Six steps led from the drive to the large oak door. The house was a double-fronted brick building with flowers climbing up around the doorway. Tanner placed the key in the lock but didn’t turn it. Instead, he placed my hand over the key and nodded.

“It’s all yours, angel. Eight bedrooms, four bathrooms, and an office for you to write in. There might be a small shell monster already happily living in there already, and I might even have fitted a recording studio and a pool with the hope you might let me sleep over every now and again, but this house is yours, Emmy. A place to call home, whether to choose to spend your life with me or not.”

Leaping at him, I hooked myself around his body, kissing him so hard, he fell back against the door… my door… our door. We stayed like that for an age, until Tanner pulled his lips away from mine, breathless. “You wanna see inside, angel?”

I nodded frantically as he lowered me to the ground. “Wait, why would I not want to spend my life with you? What did you do?” I asked suspiciously.

“I wrote you a song.” He paused. “And I’m not even sorry. In fact, I’ve written you a whole heap of songs and we’ve recorded them and made them into an album.”

“And what did you call this album?” I asked, trying to suppress my smile.

“Which Angel?”

“Which Angel?” I asked, confused.

“Well, we wanted to spell it WITCH, angel, but our new label said it didn’t make sense, so we changed it to that. You, Angel, used your witchy ways to change us all for the better. We wanted to create something that showed you how important you are to all of us. Now, shall we go inside?"

“Yes, please. I can’t believe you did this for me. One thing, rock star? Come live here with me. Let’s make it our house.”

“Hell yes,” he cried as I unlocked the door. Scooping me up in his arms like a bride, he carried me inside. “Now, let’s go choose a bedroom and we can do something aboutthis.”

I groaned as he rubbed his rock-hard erection against my hip with a wink as he carried me intoournew home.

Tanner – 3 months later

Ipulledmyselffromthe pool, wrapping a towel around my waist, letting the fleeting English sun warm my skin. Rylee had been on my mind all morning. I thought a lot about my little sister. I wished things could have been different; that Mum had made better choices, that I would have known earlier, that I could have saved her from a life in care. But I was also furious that she didn’t tell me earlier, hadn’t given me a chance, and spent years trying to ruin my life. When I thought about the things she did and the lengths she went to, it was so fucked up. But her actions helped me find Emmy. Without the overdose, I wouldn’t have gotten sober, there would be no Cosmic Gods book, and I wouldn’t have found the love of my life.

Desperate to see her, I walked inside and shouted her name.

“Upstairs, rock star. Trying to work.”
