The blonde girl spoke, staring at the floor in front of her as she did. “We met a woman. Skinny, dark short hair. She offered us money, good money to play with the lead singer of the Cosmic Gods. Got us tickets and backstage access. Told us he’d be off his face and we just had to strip him off, make him come in a condom, and then we could have all the fun we wanted with him or each other, as long as we made it look like he had a really good night.” Her eyes flicked up and met mine before she looked away again, the thought of what they’d done to me making my blood boil. “She told us how to get into the room, which of the staff we could trust, and which we needed to avoid. She promised us drugs and booze. He was already out of it on the bed, so we stripped him, rolled on the condom, and made him come. I mean, it took a while because he was pretty much comatose, but he came eventually, whimpering and crying out some girl’s name, begging her not to leave him. It was pretty pathetic.” She laughed out, suddenly not looking so shy and apologetic as she’d done a minute ago.Who would do that to a person and then laugh about it?

“Once our job was done, Coral and I had a great night, until someone dragged us out of there the next morning.”

Matt leaned over her, bracing his hands on the arms of the chair she sat in. “Did you give him the drugs? Did you spike the drink that nearly killed him?” His voice was low, but I could hear the anger in it.

“No. Like I said, he was off his face when we found him. It was like giving a dead body a hand job. Not sure that was worth the 10K we got paid.”

“Who were the staff she said you could trust?”

“I’m not telling you that.” Out of nowhere, one of Thomas’ team moved behind her, pulling out his gun, pressing the barrel to the side of her head. The click of the safety being flicked off was clear for us all to hear.

“I suggest you answer him, miss, before I find a reason to use this.”

She gulped, wide-eyed. “Look, we just wanted to get paid to have some fun with someone famous. I mean 10K for a wank and free drugs for the night seemed too good to be true.”

The girl next to her crumbled, bursting into loud sobs. “I told her I didn’t want to do it. I knew it was a bad idea. The woman told us there was a couple of crew. I think one of them was called Miles. She sent us pictures of him because he was the one who could get us access to Tanner. I can show you. I have my phone in my pocket.”

Matt nodded, and she pulled out her phone, unlocking it before she handed it to him. He stared at the photo before he passed it to Addi, who hardened her jaw.

“This one doesn’t even work for us. Well, not anymore. Where was he?”

“He was in crew gear. He didn’t have the beard, and he has had a haircut since this picture, but he helped us get in backstage and to Tanner’s room.”

Addi turned the phone to me. “The fucker that we fired because he attacked Emmy. What the hell is going on around here?”

Matt glanced over his shoulder at me and raised his brows, and I nodded in a silent response.

“Get up. Now!” Matt yelled at the women as Thomas’ guard holstered his gun, following Matt as he moved them to the elevator.

“Where—where are we going?” the still weeping brunette cried.

“The police station, love. You have some explaining to do because you are in a whole heap of shit.”

Once the elevator doors closed, Addi let out an audible sigh, before straightening herself and looking around the room. “Out! Everyone. Now!” she yelled. “Unless you are in the band or one of Thomas’ team, I want you out of this room and if I find anyone listening in, or somewhere you shouldn’t be, you will be sacked. Get the fuck out, now!”

Rylee coughed, too scared to speak.

“You too, Rylee. You don’t get paid enough to hear this. Go make yourself useful somewhere else.”

She scuttled from the room and silence fell over all of us.

“That was a bit harsh,” I chastised. “Rylee means well.”

“Does she, Tan? Do any of them? Someone walked past all our security and drugged you. You nearly died. I nearly quit because I thought you’d broken your promise and got off your face. Someone made it look like you had sex. That’s sexual assault, for fuck’s sake. Someone we used to employ and sacked for attacking Emmy let those women in and gave them a way to get into our private area. I mean, what if next time someone has a knife or a gun? This can’t go on.” She paused, looking defeated. “I’m failing you all. I should be able to keep you safe, not open you up to weirdos who can get backstage because our staff let them. Fuck.”

I watched as Maverick pulled her into him and she burst into tears. Addi didn’t cry. Ever. She had balls of steel, so seeing her like this was hard and made me panic that things really were falling apart.

The elevator pinged, and we all snapped our heads to see who was coming out, all of us on edge. Matt walked out on the phone, making all of us breathe a collective sigh of relief. “Okay, thanks, Thomas, well see you in about twenty-four hours. I’ll let Tanner know, but please don’t say anything to her. She’ll panic and want to come back, and I have enough people to protect right now.”

“Thomas is coming. He’ll be here tomorrow. He asked that we sit tight and don’t tell any of the staff what’s going on until he can ask them some questions and work out who’s behind it.”

“We know who’s behind it,” I spat out through clenched teeth. “My mum.”

Frankie sat down at my feet, placing her cool hand on my thigh. “We don’t know that, Tan. It could be anyone. What we need to do is make sure we’re all staying safe. If someone got close enough to drug you and get into your room, then we’re all in danger.”

“No, you’re not,” Matt replied, his voice low and deep as he stared at us all. “Thomas and I will sort this. Tanner, Thomas asked me to let you know that Emmy is with him, so you didn’t worry. She’s staying with them for a while, so at least we know she’s safe.”

Shit, I’d not even thought to check where she’d gone or if she’d got there safely, which made me feel like an asshole.
