“I don’t think I enjoy being in the center of this challenge. You guys need to find a new game to play.”

“We like this one,” Turik said. “Back in the caves, Vorx and I always challenged each other. We are evenly matched in physical strength and fighting skills, so we had to find other ways to determine who was the best. Who could bring down the first hound? Who could catch the biggest fish?”

“So everything’s a competition?”

“Sometimes,” Turik said.

“But not always,” Vorx said, glancing back at me. “Sometimes, we work together.”

I shivered again and leaned into Turik as we waited for the fey inside the cabin to let us know it was safe. Rather than reemerging through the front door, they came around the side. Blood speckled their chests and faces.

“The house is clear,” one called as they both continued toward the lake.

Vorx strode forward and held the door for Turik. Just before he closed the door behind us, I glanced back, saw the fey dive into the water, and shuddered.

“They’re going to freeze,” I said.

“They will be warmer than you are. I can feel the cold in your legs,” Turik said, releasing me. His fingers went to my jacket as he glanced at Vorx. “Her backside is the coldest.”

My irritated huff clouded the air.

“Can we light the stove?” I asked, pointing at the cold black potbelly between the very small kitchen and living area at the front of the cabin.

“I will, but it will not warm quickly.” He unzipped my jacket and slid it off my shoulders.

Before I could protest, a blanket and a dizzying amount of Vorx enveloped me. With his firm chest pressed against my back and his blanket-supporting arms wrapped around me, I was cocooned in warmth. A few more shivers escaped as I stood there, letting him do his best impersonation of a heated blanket.

“You were right, Vorx,” I said after a few minutes. “This is much better than playing with Turik’s balls.”

Turik snorted.

“I could feel you smile against me. You enjoyed touching me more than you’re enjoying standing there.”

I scowled at him, but didn’t deny it.

“If your back is warm, turn to warm your front,” Vorx said, loosening his hold slightly.

I turned in his arms and reached forward, intending to warm my hands on his lower abs, which I knew were far enough from the stitching to be safe to touch. However, I somehow backhanded the massive erection flag-poling between us.

“Where in the hell are your pants?” I asked, jerking my head up to meet his gaze as he grunted from the unintentionally abusive contact.

“Over there,” he said, indicating the sofa with a nod. “Your hands are still cold. Touch me again, but more slowly. Your skin needs more time to absorb my heat.”

Itbounced between us, showing how much he liked the idea of lingering caresses.

“Is that fire lit yet?” I asked, glancing over my shoulder at Turik, who was hunched down on his heels before the stove.

“Yes. But it will take time to make the flames grow. You would warm faster by touching him.”

“What happened to choosing me and me having your babies someday?” I demanded without really thinking through what I was saying.

“Nothing,” Turik answered calmly. “I still want that.”

“You want that and still think I should grope Vorx right now?”

Turik pivoted on his heel to look at me. “This is about keeping you warm, Shelby.” He flashed a quick grin at me. “And proving who is better at warming you. I know I will win, so I don’t mind.”

“You’re both annoying,” I said, meaning it. I was so annoyed, in fact, that the little devil inside of me found its voice and started to chant,“Just do it. Do it! Hands on the pole go round and round. Round and round!”
