“No.”

“Then practice some discretion.” I rubbed a hand over my face. “This is my fault. I shouldn’t have let Vorx warm me up. It’s sending all the wrong messages. You—”

Turik stepped in front of me. The sudden press of his chest against my face stopped my tirade and my annoyed pacing.

“Quiet and listen for a moment, Shelby,” Turik said, not unkindly. “Vorx and I were both there that night. We saw the hopelessness in your eyes. Hopelessness thatheput there.” Turik lightly ran his hand over my bruised middle, as if I had any doubt about whom he was referring to.

“You will not be ready for my babies soon. I know this,” he continued. “But, perhaps, with Vorx and me, you will soon be ready to see a better future than the one you saw only a few days ago. A future that is not filled with fear but with your smiles and laughter. That is all I was going to tell Ryan.”

I huffed out a breath, my annoyance fading to make room for some guilt, and wrapped my arms around Turik’s waist.

“Besides, I am too smart to tell more men about your perfect, soft body. Vorx is already too focused on your sweet backside.” Turik’s hands slid around to cup my ass and lift me so his hard length pressed against the apex of my thighs. “Your front is just as pretty.”

“You’re ridiculous! Does everything lead back to sex with you?”

“No,” Vorx said from his place on the couch where he was watching us. “Sometimes it leads to food. Check to see if she has a fever. She’s forgetting things we already told her.”

I batted Turik’s hand away when he tried and rolled my eyes at Vorx. “You know damn well that there’s nothing wrong with my mind. But I’m starting to question both of yours. Put me down.”

Turik reluctantly did so.

“Are you angry?” he asked.

“No. Annoyed.”

He flashed a grin at me, which let me know that my annoyance didn’t bother him in the least. Deciding to self-soothe, I pivoted and went to the kitchen to raid the cupboard for junk food.

As soon as I had a bag of chips in hand, though, I sighed. We hadn’t had dinner yet, and it would be smarter for me to make something healthy instead of munching on snack foods. I didn’t want to be smart, but with both of them scrutinizing my current state of mind, that was the route I chose.

I rummaged through the cabinets for dinner ingredients. However, before I could grab the pan, Turik tugged me to the couch and handed me the chips.

“Sit,” Vorx said. “Relax and enjoy your crisps. I will make us something to eat while Turik rubs your feet.”

Surprised, I watched Vorx retreat to the kitchen. At least, I did until I caught the way Turik was observing me.

“What?”

“Do you not want me to rub your feet again?” He gestured to the couch in question.

The remnants of annoyance evaporated like it had never existed, and I quickly sat sideways on the cushions, lifting my legs so Turik could sit under me.

The next forty minutes were bliss. Not only did Turik rub my feet, but when I groaned, he also included my calves. While he turned my muscles to mush, I idly nibbled on chips and inhaled the scent of whatever meaty goodness Vorx was cooking up in the kitchen.

“I’m feeling decidedly spoiled and like it a lot,” I said.

“Good,” Vorx said from the kitchen. “Then you’ll stay.”

I shook my head at both of them. They were so focused on my happiness that I couldn’t help but wonder if I was worth their effort. Not that I didn’t value myself. Quite the opposite. I was reclaiming my self-value with a vengeance, which is why I told Turik I wasn’t ready for kids. I needed to find myself first. Wouldn’t they rather chase a woman who was ready to jump into a relationship with them, though? I recalled Turik’s comment about females running away and realized I might actually be the better option. I wasn’t running. Hell, no. Minus the embarrassing moments, I loved living with them.

After Vorx said dinner was ready, we ate together and watched a movie. It didn’t feel weird to sit between them and rest my head against Turik’s thigh while he brushed and braided my hair and Vorx rubbed my legs. There wasn’t anything sexual about the way they cared for me. I felt cherished and coddled, but I knew very well they would make it sexual if I was willing.

When it was time for bed, I went to Turik’s room to change and brush my teeth but didn’t bother trying his bed again. I knew where I wanted to be.

Turik was on his usual side when I entered their bedroom. He flashed his teeth at me and pulled back the covers. I quickly got in, relishing his warmth and the comfort of his presence.

Across the hall, the bathroom door opened. A moment later, Vorx’s shadowy form filled the doorway.

“Good,” he said. “I hate listening to your restless loneliness.”
