“I take it this isn’t something you’ve considered?” Cassie asked in a gentle voice.

“Not really. I mean, yeah. In the back of my head. But I’ve just been taking one day at a time and not really thinking, you know?”

“I do know. That’s what most of us are doing. Taking one day at a time. There’s nothing wrong with that.” She motioned for me to follow her across the hall and left me alone in the bathroom.

I took the test, paced the bathroom for the appropriate amount of time, then stared at the results in disbelief. The indication was there. Faint, but there. Pregnant.

A range of emotions rushed through me. Joy. Worry. Wonder. Hesitation. Fear. I wasn’t sure exactly what to feel. I’d wanted kids before marrying Nat. But would that baby be any safer now? I knew Turik and Vorx wanted babies, but they were also nervous about having them.

Shit.

They were already freaked out about my health and safety. What would they be like after this?

A knock on the door interrupted my growing apprehension.

“Are you ready for some company?” Cassie asked.

I opened the door and held up the test.

“Well, we have an answer for the tenderness then, don’t we,” she said kindly. “Would you like to talk privately with me or—”

Turik and Vorx appeared around the corner.

“You know what’s wrong with her?” Turik asked.

Cassie watched me, letting me decide how I wanted to handle this.

“There’s nothing wrong with me,” I said. “I’m pregnant.”

Both of my guys paled but didn’t stop coming at me. I was up in Vorx’s arms and hugged between the two of them.

“Don’t worry, Shelby. You’re safe. The baby is safe. We will ask our brothers if there is another who wants to live with us.”

“No,” I said quickly. “You two are plenty. I know I’m safe. I know you two can handle this. We’ll be fine.”

“The tenderness should fade,” Cassie said. “You should be perfectly fine to resume normal activities. Let Shelby be the judge of what’s okay for her.”

I shot Cassie a grateful smile.

“There are some prenatal vitamins I’d like to send with you. The fey are looking for more in the hopes that pregnancies will increase.”

She passed the bottle to Turik.

“If you have any questions or concerns, I’m here. Julie and Nancy are also good resources if I’m not available. We’re pooling our knowledge on this.”

“Thank you, Cassie,” Turik said.

They hustled me out of that house so quickly I wasn’t sure what was going on until we arrived at our own and they stripped me of my blanket to take turns listening to my stomach.

“We will need more food,” Vorx said.

“Snack cakes,” Turik agreed. “That makes Angel’s baby move.”

Vorx’s hand slid over the curve of my hips, and I knew what he was thinking.

“Maybe some healthier food options, okay? Like vegetables and lean meats and fruit. There’s more nutrition in those for the baby.”

Vorx grunted, and I knew I was still going to get some fattening snack cakes.

Turik’s hands ran up my body to gently knead my breasts.

“The other females had sore breasts when they were first pregnant. This is supposed to help.”

They didn’t hurt, but his touch sure did feel good. My nipples pebbled, and he noticed.

“I think it’s still Vorx’s turn, isn’t it?” I asked.

Vorx growled, and his teeth skimmed my shoulder.

I closed my eyes and welcomed him home.
