“I’m holding mine right now.”

“But how can you be sure?”

“Darling, why does the term bother you so much?”

I thought for a moment, trying to come up with the right words. “Because, if we really are soul mates, why didn’t I recognize it twenty years ago? I literally walked away. Do you know how much that haunts me? We could have easily ended up as star-crossed lovers, and I hate that thought.”

“I shudder at the thought as well, but we didn’t end up that way. We’re here together now. And I know for me, I cherish our time even more.”

“I do as well. But ...”

“Perhaps you were right—we needed the time apart before we came together. It doesn’t matter what title we give ourselves. You are the love of my life.”

“I love the sound of that. I feel the same way.”

“I’m happy to hear that, because you need to marry me next week on Christmas Eve.”

My jaw dropped, like to the floor. “I think I just heard you wrong.”

“No, darling, you heard me correctly.”

“You’re joking, right? My sister is getting married on Christmas Eve.”

“Your sister is still getting married on Christmas Eve.”

“What?” I was thoroughly confused. “You want a double wedding? Does my sister know about this?”

He looked at his watch. “She should at any moment.”

“Patrick, what’s going on?”

“Don’t you want to marry me?” His sexy, playful grin came out to play.

I held up my hand, showcasing the ring he had put on it. “Of course I do.”

“Then it’s settled.”

“Not so fast. We need to give your kids time.”

“You heard Bridgette tonight; she loves you.”

“Yes, but Rory—”

“Rory!” Patrick yelled, before I could finish my thought. “Please come out here.”

It didn’t take long before Rory rolled out in his skull pajama bottoms and white T-shirt. He gaped at us cuddled on the couch, his face twisting. “Are you guys being gross? Because, if you haven’t forgotten, I’m still a child. And even if I weren’t, there are things I don’t want to see.”

“We’ll save that for later.” Patrick was not teasing. “I called you out here because I need to marry Isabelle next week and she would like to know how you feel about that.”

“What?” Bridgette flew out of her room. “You guys are getting married next week now?”

“I knew they wouldn’t be happy about this,” I said under my breath, thinking only Patrick could hear me.

“I’m happy,” Bridgette said. “I’m just surprised.”

That made two of us.

“Yeah, it’s cool.” Rory nodded.
