He wasn’t sure how he felt about that but wanted to know right away. There were a lot of options other than the multi-level apartment house that Kendra owned.

People had homes with in-law suites or another dwelling on the property.

Ella and Travis had an in-law suite in their house for Travis’s father if he wanted it. It sat empty now, but they said it was there whenever he was ready to not live on his own. It could be years or never happen, but it was an option.

He was pretty sure he and Devin would work something out for their parents if they needed to at some point too.

“My mother says no. I don’t need to. There are a lot of people who are completely blind that live alone. She can get taxis and have friends take her places. I don’t need to live there to still help her with groceries or appointments. I know that. But it’s convenient right now. I guess that is the best way to answer that.”

“I don’t need an answer other than I was curious if you never saw yourself leaving there. Something tells me your mother wouldn’t want that.”

“She doesn’t,” she said. “Some of this is on me. Something I need to work on. I’m trying.”

“That is all anyone should care about then,” he said and picked up the remote. “Now we can figure out what to watch on TV.”

“Thanks,” she said. “For not putting any pressure on me.”

“I wouldn’t do that.”

Because he knew what it was like to have it on him. And he wasn’t going to push her when he didn’t want to ruin what they had.

Down And Dirty

It’d been just about two months that Ivan and Kendra had been dating and somehow they’d kept it quiet with the exception of her mother. Ivan had come to dinner twice more at her house and once he’d eaten with her mother.

He’d told her later on that he’d found her mother sweet and funny. A strong woman that didn’t have an issue giving her daughter a piece of her mind.

He’d also noticed that Karen moved around her apartment well. Not like someone that was blind.

She reminded Ivan that her mother had lived there for years and the house was set up for her comfort.

If there was one day she might wish people knew she had a boyfriend it was today.

Valentine’s Day.

But they were still keeping it quiet and it’d been fun to do so.

She was pretty sure many were catching on. At least Ella, which was why she was almost trying to avoid her boss at times but knew that wasn’t right. Not when Ella was going out of work soon and was already cutting back her hours.

There was a knock at the door and she looked up and there was her boss standing there in a dark pink dress that was probably maternity wear but very stylish and looking lovely on Ella.

“Hi,” she said. “How are you feeling this morning?”

Ella had her hand on her lower back. “Fat.”

“You look beautiful. You’re glowing.”

“This kid wants out and I want him out. He’s going to be bigger than Madison. I know it. It’s like everything is squished inside of me and he’s stretching and kicking it out of the way.”

Kendra grimaced. “A word of advice. Don’t say those things to women who haven’t been pregnant before. It’s effective birth control.”

“Someone you’re getting down and dirty with that you don’t want me to know about?” Ella asked wiggling her eyebrows.

The heat filled her face. It was so hard to not react at times. “Does it matter?”

Ella shut the door. “That’s the first time you haven’t said no. Come on. Tell me. I know I’ve told you before not to tell me so I don’t have to lie to my mother, but now I want to know. She’s spinning her wheels and it’s hilarious.”
