“I have the right to privacy. I can ward my mind if I choose to,” I snarked. Was this overbearing fucker serious right now?

Desmond snuck up on my other side and weaved his fingers through mine to hold my hand, catching me off guard. I could feel an overwhelming urge to tell him everything he wanted to know rising inside me, drowning out my own anger. My entire body thrummed with emotional whiplash as the two feelings clashed together and battled for supremacy.

“Diana, who is your guardian angel?” Desmond questioned.Answer me right now, and don’t you fucking lie to me, little girl.

I clamped my mouth shut and held my breath. Anything to stop myself from giving in to his power.

“Azazel,” I said with a fake smile that was the complete opposite of the fury I felt inside. Desmond gave me his word he’d never use his powers on me again. Even though Zaz warned me he would break his promise, I thought he’d prove me wrong.

“Fuck!” Bash screamed. “That’s why you smelled like pine. When was the first time you met him?”

“The first time I saw him was at the 70s party we went to in my dream. Well, I guess that wasn’t a dream. Or was it? You were there…” I gushed, still under the influence of Desmond’s emotional manipulation.

“Diana, Azazel has a huge vendetta against us, and he’s most likely using you to hurt us. There’s no way he’s your guardian angel because he fell from grace centuries ago.”

“That’s not true. He knows things about me that only someone watching me would know. He’s an important part in all of this. My gut wouldn’t steer me wrong.” Desmond was still pumping me with fake emotion. I didn’t mean to let that slip.

“Diana, you have no fucking clue what you’re doing. You know nothing about magic except for what we taught you. You have NO CLUE who that man is! Or what he’s done!” Bash bellowed at me. “You fucking lied to us! After we asked you to tell us if you developed powers or symptoms. You could have told us at any time since you found out.”

I sat in my chair and crossed my legs, astounded by his high handed attitude. He acted as if they were the good guys at this table. They were a glorified bunch of hitmen who fashioned themselves as magical mobsters, but they were criminals at best.

“Get the fuck off your high horse. You stalked me for months! You and your friends KIDNAPPED me. You faked my death and now I’m stuck in this mansionfor my own safety, which I never chose for myself. You only did it for your own gain. You all get a power boost in your quest to assassinate Satanandwarm holes to fill!” I shouted so loudly that my voice went hoarse.

“Diana–” Bash tried to interrupt, but I kept going. I had never felt this level of pure rage and hatred in my life. It neared an uncontrollable level.

“Have you all been one hundred percent honest with me? None of you have ever lied to me, or withheld information from me? If it’s true, cast some motherfucking stones my way, but I know you’re all hiding shit from me!”

The entire table went silent, darting their eyes from Bash to me. Malcolm cleared his throat, as if he was about to say something.

“I’ve been trying to get you pregnant!” Ares blurted out. He hung his head, carding his fingers through his hair as he exhaled a strained breath. “I came inside you on purpose as much as I could and have been hoping and praying my seed takes root. Seeing you carrying my child would make me the happiest god alive because we’d be linked togetherforever. We’d have a part of us immortalized for the rest of time because they’d have my immortality. You’d be mine in every way. You could be pregnant right now…” He stared intently at my stomach, and I couldn’t help but unleash the laughter bubbling inside me. He looked at me like I had stabbed him through the heart.

I cackled so hard that I had to take a minute to catch my breath. “Get ready to be disappointed, asshole. I have a birth control implant.”

“Not for long, we can always get it taken out. Mal can teleport it out I bet.” He swung a questioning gaze to Malcolm, who only shook his head.

“Absolutely not. She literally just admitted to lying to us and you still want to knock her up? Have some self respect, A-Bomb. And learn some manners, you interrupted me earlier.” Mal made direct eye contact with me, leaning forward so his elbows were on the table. “Bash has been lying to you, Diana. Incubi can mark a source, usually someone they either get regular magical refills from or actually care about enough to claim ownership over, like asoulmateif you will. Bash claimed you without asking you. He didn’t give you a choice. That’s why you have a random bite mark somewhere on your body, and why you feel randomly and unreasonably attracted to Bash, even though you have no clue how you developed such intense feelings in a short amount of time. Your earlier tirade left that juicy tidbit out, so I figured I’d let you in on our secret.”

No one spoke or said a word. They all gawked at me and shifted in their chairs like guilty teens who got caught smoking cigarettes under the bleachers.

“Birdie, I did it because I had to have you. The bond wouldn’t be this strong unless you really wanted it! I was going to tell you!” I tuned Bash out. He sounded so far away and distorted, like he was underwater. I ran my hand over the mark on my inner thigh.

It must have come from fainting at the club. How the Hell could it be teeth marks?I remembered…

Except it was a bite mark. Bash’s mark on me that I didn’t agree to. He staked his claim in my dream when he bit me at that party on the couch. I didn’t think I could get any angrier, but I was wrong. An all-consuming rage hit me soul deep. I was beyond yelling, crying, and shouting. Betrayal detonated my heart, imploding it into a devastated lump of blood and tissue. Was anything I felt for this man real? Was our entire relationship a lie? I had feelings for him before he claimed me, but they were never this strong, this consuming. I was just property to him, something to claim, like meat at a market. My hands lit on fire. I clenched them into fists, because it was all I could do to keep from swinging at them. They all knew… They all kept it from me.

I have to leave. Who gives a fuck where I go, as long as it’s away from them. I didn’t even want to pack a bag, because everything I had here wasn’t really mine; it was what they bought for me.Toys and accessories for their new pet.I would meet up with Azazel and he would help me figure it out. I channeled all of my fury and hurt into breaking the cuffs around my wrists, smiling as they disintegrated away. The four of them gaped.Pick your jaws up off the floors, no more pathetic Betty Sue bullshit from me.I used my superspeed to get to my room so I could put shoes on. On my way to the front door, Bash tried to fade in front of me to block my way, but I was so emotionally hyped that my powers took over. I was a blur as I moved through the halls, causing him to miss me completely.

Stop, now. You’re not getting through the wards and security measures.Desmond’s commanding tone rankled me.

Oh watch me, Daddy Douchebag.

Ares grabbed my arm in an attempt to stop me, but I blasted him off with a torrent of energy that sent him through the wall, crashing into the furniture in the next room.

“I’m done letting you all control me. You’re not manipulating me anymore. Find another way to kill Satan, because I’mdone.”

I stood in front of the main door, squaring my shoulders and focusing my concentration. I thought of all their deceit, anger, and lies. The choices they took from me. The danger they put me in. My dreams of becoming a lawyer were over. My job was gone. I could never see my family again without putting them in danger. I let these men into my heart and in between my thighs. I was a weak, naive fool who believed they had my best interests at heart.

Magic staticked through the air, whirling and crackling all around me. All the hair on my entire body stood at attention as I vibrated with an emotional devastation I couldn’t handle anymore. Magic surged from my palms and fingertips, spidering out around me. It raced through walls and smashed through windows, shattering the glass in its search for the wards. The entire house quaked with tremors that leveled the furniture and paintings on the walls. When the front door swung open, I clapped my hands together, stopping the flow of uncontrolled magic I had started. I sped through the archway, to the open gate beyond. Finally, I was free to leave.
