He gave me a weak puppy dog eyes and pouty lip routine as he waited for my answer. “Um, it was my Pop Pop’s, so you’d have to be careful with it. Wouldn’t you have to come and get your car in the morning?”

“I called us a car while you were packing up.” The nonchalant way he said it led me to think he regularly used such a luxury. “I used to ride a Harley a long time ago. It would be nice to get on one again.”

“Yeah, why not. I’m already leading you right to where I live. Why not let you drive my vehicle home, too?”

He chuckled as he waved the SUV waiting for us off. He bent down, so his lips were right near my ear. I felt his warm breath caress that tender spot between my ear and neck.

“Diana, I would never take advantage of you in such a state,” he said, the rasp in his voice harsher than it was a few moments ago. “I promise, you’ll get home in one piece. The next time we meet though, I can’t make the same promise. I may very well break you then.” The liquid heat from earlier scalded me. Suddenly it felt like a sauna outside, despite the cool fall weather. That deviously charming smile graced his face again.Break me the next time… Sign me up.

He swung his leg over my bike and even in a tailored suit, he looked like he owned it.I bet he could own a lot of things. His slight forward lean and the way he grabbed the handles proved that he was a more experienced rider than he let on. I climbed on the bitch seat of my bike, wrapping my arms around his waist.

“Scoot up more, I don’t want you falling off.” He gently grabbed my arms, bringing me forward and rearranging them to squeeze his muscled abs tighter. Our bodies were flush together, with my cheek on his back, allowing me to feel his muscles ripple as he moved. This man was sculpted by Michelangelo himself. His entire body seemed to be covered in muscle. Add that in with the vibrations of the bike engine, the warm gooey feeling he gave me, and the way he gripped my arms, we would be lucky if I didn’t turn the bike seat into a damn Slip N Slide.

We pulled out of the lot, cruising down a main street. The fresh air went a long way toward making me feel less dizzy and nauseous. He was silent until we reached a stop light. “So do you get these migraines often?”

“Now I do, but it wasn’t always this way. Turn left at the next light. It’s the strangest thing. I’ve never had a migraine until the day I turned twenty-two a few months ago. At first they were manageable, but they keep getting more frequent. This is the first time one made me pass out, though.”

The light turned green, and we started moving again. I gave him the next few directions. “Hm, that’s interesting. Have you seen a doctor for it yet?”

“Yes, and it was a waste of time. He said it was probably due to lady problems.” Ugh, that’s why I couldn’t stand going to male doctors, they never actually listened. He had been the only one who was free on short notice, though.Oh shit, I just mentioned my period. My body tensed.

“Don’t worry about offending me dollface, you can call it a period. Half the world gets one,” he replied, as if he could read my mind. Wow. Charming, hot as fuck, and not an asshole? He kept pulling tens across the board.

When we finally parked under the breezeway, he was the perfect gentleman. He saved his number into my phone, with strict instructions that I was to text him an update on how I felt in the morning. We walked to my front door, stopping on the stoop as he held my hand and lightly kissed it. He never asked to come inside or pressured me for anything.

Quelling down my excitement before bed was almost impossible. I knew I shouldn’t get excited about men. Most of them never worked out, and they were usually such a disappointment… but something felt different about Desmond. I couldn’t believe that I met a handsome, charming manandgot his phone number. Maybe there were men like my mystery dream man out in the world, but instead of walking around the streets, they were apparently waiting for me in jazz clubs.

Ifelt the hairs on the back of my neck stand up as I stepped off Diana’s stoop. Magic foreign to me snaked up my neck, feeling me out and trying to measure my power signature. I purposely masked it, waiting for the intrusive magic to recede. I was above sending my magic out to measure who was around me, which meant that whoever was skulking in the alley across the street had to be a bottom feeder. I used my super speed to catch the little rat unaware, wrapping my hand around his throat and slamming him against a brick wall. As he exhaled in shock, a forked tongue darted out.Yeah, some reptilian shifter. He was probably a runner or an errand boy for someone more important. I used my emotional manipulation powers to drive some truth into him to get the information I needed. I highly doubted him hiding in an alley across from Diana’s home was a coincidence.

“What the fuck are you doing here?” I asked.

His tongue darted out, swiping across his bottom lip. “I’m watching the young broad in this house, reporting her movements back to my Master.” His mouth gaped in shock that he divulged his plans so quickly.

“Who’s your Master?” I snarled as I tightened my grip. I wanted to choke him so badly. Why is he watching her? Does he look through her bedroom window?

“I don’t know, I’ve never met him. I give the information to a middleman, and he delivers it.”

I amplified my magic, digging into his mind and ramming him so hard with truth that he could barely breathe. “How long have you been watching her?”

“Two… moons…” he gasped. Diana turned twenty-two two months ago. Definitely not a coincidence. I loosened my hold on his throat slightly. “Please, let me go. I know nothing, I’m no one. I only watch her and report back.”

I considered bringing him home, so Ares and Malcolm could string him up to that ceiling contraption they built last week and torture him for more information. Unfortunately, he had nothing left to offer us. He was telling the truth when he said he was no one. Torture was such hard work. The act itself took a lot of physical energy, and the clean up washorrendous. He didn’t seem like he was worth the trouble.

I looked him dead in the eye, pun intended, and crushed my fist around his windpipe. Holding him against the wall, I watched him struggle as he tried his hardest to suck in air. His efforts were in vain. A few minutes later his dead body slumped in my grasp. I let go, letting it slide to the ground in a crumpled heap. A dumpster nearby would have to do for hiding the body for now until Mal could come back and teleport it elsewhere. I wasn’t going to lose out on an opportunity to kill Red because someone else got to her first. She was ours.

I crossed the street discreetly, and walked to a subway station a few blocks from Diana’s home. They were one of the easiest places to fade in. There was an element of anonymity when you disappeared into a crowd full of people who were usually too absorbed in their own lives or glued to their phones to care about what was happening around them.

While I walked, my thoughts drifted to Diana. I’d been immediately enamored with her when she’d walked out of the back room of the bar. Chocolate brown, curly hair fell in waves, skimming full breasts. Steel blue eyes, cupid’s bow lips, and a heart-shaped face made her look so innocent. My fucking weakness. She wore a black cocktail dress that came to mid-thigh.And her thighs. They were suffocatingly thick. They could probably wrap around my head, crack it like a walnut, and send me back to Hell. The company there was top notch, so it would be worth it.

Her presence was impossible to ignore. When she’d called me ‘sir’ my dick wept, begging me to get inside her. But I couldn’t afford to get distracted by a cute face and what I knew would be a tight snatch. We needed to know more about her so we could get a game plan together. The pressure to deal with Red was mounting. Eventually we’d have to take a course of action, and we couldn’t do that until we knew what we were dealing with.

Deeeessssssiiiii!!!!!I rolled my eyes when a deep, sing-song voice rattled in my mind just as I climbed down the subway station steps.Desmond, come home and tell us all about your super secret mission!Ares. That annoying fuck was always interrupting my thoughts via the mindlink. At least he wasn’t on a rampage at one of the strip clubs like he was last week. We needed him on his A-game for this assignment. Sussing out Diana left me with more questions than answers. I still wasn’t one hundred percent sure what she was.

I had some evidence that lent itself to a main theory. She didn’t pass out at the bar from a migraine. Her magic broke through. The power signature reading I got from her on the bike was off the charts compared to the muted one I got at the bar. I was excited to get back to the crew and talk about all of it. Once I was certain the crowd around me was large enough to get lost in, I faded back to the mansion.

I materialized in front of a large, black iron gate. Our main property was settled in upstate New York’s Adirondack Mountains, surrounded by acres of forest. There was a small stream running through it toward the edge of the property line. The house was built of solid stones. Limestone, sandstone, quartz, and alabaster weaved together to create intricate, beautiful architecture. I found it ironic, however, that such a stunning place could house such horrifyingly menacing creatures. It served as a pretty facade for the ugliness that dwelled within. What a metaphor for the four of us: horridly ugly monsters, wrapped in beautiful packaging.

I walked up the pathway to the front door, putting my hand on the door knocker and holding it there so it could read my signature. The door swung open, allowing me to walk straight through. I only crafted the best security measures for my crew.
