"Probably not, but I don't care. My dad liked you, and I think you should be here, for Ellie, I mean."

"For Ellie?" He questions, stepping into me, wiping my tear from my cheekbone with his thumb.

"And for me," I admit.

He stares at me a second longer, pushing my hair behind my ear. "Okay."

"Okay?"

I was expecting him to put up a fight.

"Yeah, I'll come. I just... I don't want to cause any more problems for you. Not with Eric. Not with your mom."

"You are always going to be in my life, Jameson. That was sealed in fate the second that Ellie was made. They'll get over it."

He follows me in his truck back to the house. As we step out of our vehicles, every single head turns our way. A thickness filling the air. Ellie drops the light-up frisbee she and Eric are throwing and sprints up, "Daddy! You came here?"

"Yeah, Ellie bear. I've missed you."

"Me too," she whispers, "you know pop pop is gone to heaven?"

Jameson squeezes her tighter, "Yeah does that make you sad?"

She nods, nuzzling into the crick of his neck, still whispering about something I can't quite hear.

As we walk by, several people are in the front lawn gathered around the fire pit, and several whispers begin.

I have run out of patience.

"Hey, guys!" I yell, causing the attention of everyone to shift to me, "It's super great that you are all here. This," I toss my thumb over my shoulder in Jay's direction, "is Ellison's father. We aren't together. I'm still marrying Eric. He knew my father and deserves to be here. So whisper about that."

Everyone goes eerily silent. Tiptoeing around my outburst. Eric locks eyes with Jameson, and I know I just pissed him off. Ellie is hungry, so Jameson takes her inside, Eric appearing at my side.

"Your mother is going to flip out."

"Leave my mother to me," I grit, turning toward him.

"Hanna, I'm really trying here. I feel like I can't even talk to you."

"Then don't," I snap, stomping away like a child. Instantly regretting it.

I make it to the dining room, pushing through a crowd of people, before getting drug through the house by Karly. Her grip bruising my arm.

"What the hell is wrong with you?"

"I'm not sure what you mean? Other than the fact that my dad died."

"Hanna, you are yelling at Eric. You are snapping at everyone. What the fuck is going on?"

"Nothing is going on!"

"Really because Jameson in there cuddled up to Ellie tells me otherwise!"

I start pacing, throwing my hands up, "What do you want me to say? Huh?"

"I don't know, Han! You would think you'd be finding comfort with your fiancé, but it seems the only person on your mind is Jameson! Did you even think of Eric before bringing Jameson here? Do you even care!?"

Her accusations bring guilt crawling up my spine.
