JAMESON

I can feel my heart racing beneath my black t-shirt as I jump off my bike and make my way to Hanna's front door.

I'm absolutely terrified of Ellie's reaction. She's only five, well, nearly six, and this conversation isn't something she should ever have to do.

I want to blame Hanna, but I know that's not fair. It's just as much my fault as it is hers.

Before I ever reach the door, Ellie jerks it open, an excited look in her eyes, "Did you bring it?" She squeals, jumping up and down on the front porch.

"Bring what?" I tease, scooping her up into my arms.

She huffs out an aggravated growl, "Don't play dumb."

"You know I did," I wiggle my eyebrows. Hanna appears in the doorway, leaning cross-armed against the door jam, barefoot and beautiful.

"Well, what is it?" She smiles, her eyes lighting up.

"I can't tell you yet. I need to talk to your mom about it first. Do you mind giving us a minute?"

Ellie nods, skipping back into her bedroom.

"Are you ready to do this?" I ask, the worry on her face unmistakable.

"Yeah, I just don't know how she is going to react."

I smile, "If she's anything like you, it will be one extreme or the other. I'm hoping for the best."

She slaps my arm, "Shut up."

"What's the surprise?" She asks as I pull the papers from my back pocket.

She unfolds them, scanning the contents before her eyes quickly snap back to me, "Jay, these are Disney World tickets."

"I'm aware."

She's silent, her thoughts obviously taking over.

"Well?" I question, tilting her head up with my finger against her chin.

"No," She fumes, handing the papers back to me. Slamming them into my chest.

"No?"

"No." She agrees.

"Why?"

"Because I've been saving for Disney all year. I was supposed to take her."

"Did you not see the tickets? I got tickets for everyone. Including your loser boyfriend because I figured you'd want to drag him along. Blakely and Judson are bringing JC too."

She scoffs, "Eric is not a loser."

"That would be the only thing you retained from that."

"I can't let you pay for all of this," she huffs, "I'll figure it out."

"I want to help, Hanna. It's the least I can do. Plus, it will give me time to spend with her before I leave. I will miss her birthday, and this will be a good way to make up for it. We will fly down and fly back. Make it a long weekend."
