Page 27 of When You Kiss Me

She kissed him. How could she not? He was so close, and she’d been thinking about the warmth of his embrace all day. Maybe they’d spend time together and they’d both realize they weren’t each other’s fate? Why not speed the process along?

And then Vi forgot about intellectual alibis and excuses to keep her distance from this man.

Chuck tasted of sweetness and the unknown. But a good kind of unknown.

He drew her into his lap with very little effort and let her kiss him for as long as she liked.

Which was a long time.

Chapter Seven

“I don’t do yoga,” Vi said for what seemed like the tenth time.

“The goal of this week is to try new things.” Grandma Dotty skipped down the front steps as Chuck pulled up in the black Town Car. “Yoga is good for your body and your mind.”

“Don’t be surprised if my mind falls asleep.” Violet was tired. She’d stayed up too late kissing Chuck and she couldn’t seem to find her regret this morning. “And since when did the week have a goal other than me getting my chapters done?”

“I like Dotty’s goal.” Chuck walked around the car and opened the door for her grandmother, giving her a friendly smile.

“You’re supportive, Chuck.” Grandma Dotty tweaked his cheek before getting in the back seat. “And reliable. All good qualities in a man.”

Plus, he’s a good kisser.

Chuck handed Vi a small cup of espresso. He didn’t grin, but he looked at her with a gaze that said he was burning for her.

Violet’s chest squeezed with happiness. Maybe Maggie and Chuck were right. Maybe she did need to let loose a little. Besides, it wasn’t like Chuck was a celebrity or internet famous. He was just an average Joe, no threat to her position at Harvard.

Vi stared at her little coffee cup. “I’m not sure I should drink this. It might be better to fall asleep during yoga.”

“You should drink it,” Chuck whispered. “You never know about Dotty. She’s under your watch and could slip out while you’re sleeping in yoga class.”

“How true that is.” Vi gulped the espresso shots and then sat in the back seat, smiling like a fool falling in love.

“Go with the flow, Vi. Everybody does yoga now.” Grandma Dotty was on a natural high, grinning at the world. “It helps in bed, I hear.”

Vi choked on a breath. “To sleep, you mean?”

Grandma Dotty waved a hand. “You young kids can call it what you like.”

Chuck slid behind the wheel. “What are we talking about?”

“Yoga flexibility and it’s benefits in—”

“Longevity!” Vi shouted, cutting her grandmother off. “Everybody knows yoga practitioners lead long lives.”

“Life is about balance.” Chuck did a slow head-nod. “And yoga gives you balance.”

“You do yoga?” Vi couldn’t believe it.

“I don’t do yoga classes, but I know many people who do.”

“You should do yoga with us.” Grandma Dotty clapped her hands. “Chuck is always so busy. And he’s going to have to wait for us anyway.”

“What a great idea.” Vi teased, assuming Chuck wouldn’t. And wouldn’t his refusal to join them be good ammunition the next time he counseled her not to work so hard?

“I know when a gauntlet has been thrown.” Chuck glanced at them over his shoulder. “Challenge accepted.”

Violet’s jaw dropped. “You’re going to do yoga in your suit? No way.”
