She laughed and sent a cheese + apron = brain emoji.

A full two minutes passed with no response. Casey’s heart sank into her mattress as she assumed their teasing had concluded. But a photo popped up and a squeal escaped her lips with a layer of pure elation. Her eyes grazed over Austin’s sweet face and upper torso donning a Harvard apron. He included the message,Don’t knock it ’til you try it!

“Using my own words against me, Austin Templeton...”

That’s it. I’m a goner. Hopelessly falling for you and your cheesy sandwiches.

CHAPTER FIVE

Lauren

“Shit!” The last eggrolled from the counter and hit the tile, a gunky yellow puddle oozing across the floor. “Damn it!” Lauren snagged the roll of paper towels and dropped to her knees, scooping the shells and yolk straight into the trash. “Sorry, Austin... I guess no banana bread this week.”

“Why not?” Mitch breezed into the kitchen, his gaze intent on the coffee pot.

“Oh, I just dropped the last egg on the stupid floor.” Lauren moved to the sink to wash her hands and flipped the faucet on. The water collided with a dirty pan, projecting the spray onto her pajama top. “Ugh! Fucking fabulous...” she mumbled, shutting the faucet off and peeling the wet shirt away from her skin. “Just fucking fabulous...”

Mitch snickered, pulling a spoon from the drawer. “I didn’t know about the wet t-shirt contest.” A smirk grew on his unshaven face. “But it’s a guaranteed way to liven up Sunday brunch.”

Lauren folded her arms across her damp chest as her cheeks flushed pink with embarrassment. Her gaze found her husband’s as his smile grew. The beat of her heart thumped, increasing in speed as the coffee pot beeped. Mitch moved closer, his line of sight falling to her chest.

When’s the last time you looked at me like that?

Adrenaline pulsed through her body as his hands unfolded her arms and pinned them to her sides. His forehead brushed against her own, a moan escaping his mouth as he backed her body into the counter.

Lauren closed her eyes, melting into him as his lips found hers, a surge of heat running rampant along her spine.

And when’s the last time you kissed me like this?

Tugging her hands free from his grasp, she raked her fingers through his dark, unkempt hair, groaning with growing passion as his palms cupped her wet breasts.

“Mitch...” she whispered, pressing her body into his. “What’s gotten into you?”

The coffee pot beeped again as he nipped her bottom lip with his teeth. “Let me take you upstairs, Peaches.”

She giggled and pressed her lips to his neck. “I mean, it’s not really the right time of the month to try.”
