“Geez, Austin!” Casey giggled. “You have a freaking mansion!” Her fingers ran along the wrought-iron railing as she kicked her sandals off.

He cringed.

What are you going to think of Templeton Manor?

She walked the length of the foyer until her butt dropped onto the sofa in the living room. Slouching backward, she smiled. “I don’t even need to sit on my feet here.”

He shook his head and snorted, picturing the new couch he ordered, finally scheduled to arrive over the weekend.

You’ll be so surprised when we get home!

“Holy cow!” She pointed behind him. “Is that your backyard?” Her eyes widened as she jumped from the sofa and darted past him to the sliding doors. “It’s like the size of Millennium Park!” she called over her shoulder, stepping down onto the paved brick patio.

Austin followed her outside under the baking sun. He tilted his face upward, basking in the dry heat of California—the muggy, humid summer weather of Chicago two thousand miles away.

“Geez, this must be a bitch to mow.” Casey laughed as her feet padded through the luscious green grass. “My mom always made me pull weeds and mow as a kid and I hated every second of it. Just one reason I love city living.” She unzipped her sweatshirt and looped it around her waist.

Stepping behind her, Austin ran his hands along her bare arms and planted a kiss on the top of her head with a sigh.

“You’ve never mowed it, have you?” she asked, turning to face him.

A smile tugged at the left side of his mouth as embarrassment snaked up his spine. His cheeks flushed red with more than the warmth of the sunshine.

“I’ve called you pretentious before, right?” She snorted. “I think I need a new word.”

He scooped her small body up into his arms and carried her back to the house. “If it makes you happy, I’ll cut each blade of grass by hand with a pair of kitchen scissors before we leave.”

She giggled as he returned her feet to the cool wood floor in the dining room. “While that would promise a few laughs, you can save your time, sir.” Tugging the collar of his shirt toward her, she pressed her lips to his.

Adrenaline surged through his bloodstream and goosebumps erupted on his forearms with a shiver of longing as her mouth moved against his. He pulled her closer, gripping her waist until her hands dipped beneath his shirt, the lazy graze of her fingernails skimming his skin.

Desire coated his heart as his name tumbled from her lips in a whispered, raspy rush, the depths of her soul calling to his own with urgency.

“What time do you have to meet my sister again?”

“Four,” she murmured, nipping his earlobe with her teeth.

Fire blasted through his system, prickling and burning through his veins. Glancing at the hallway clock, he read 3:23 PM.

Oh, that’s plenty of time, Cinderella...

“And I still need to shower and get ready,” she added, dragging her tongue along the side of his neck.

Heat descended on his body, each nerve cell sizzling with growing anticipation.Do you even know what you do to me, Casey?A mischievous smile broke across his lips. “Have I not shown you the lovely two-person shower upstairs yet?” He pressed his growing arousal into her belly.

Her hands dropped to the button on his pants. “Sounds spacious. I’d like to see it,” she whispered, trailing the zipper downward.

The smile on his lips widened as the sultry purr of her voice prioritized all blood flow to his pelvis. “Follow me.”

The doorbell rang. “You’re home!” Lauren’s voice penetrated the front door, biting into the moment, each word slicing the plans of shower sex in half with a serrated knife.

A guttural groan of disappointment dripped from his lips as he dropped his forehead against Casey’s. “No fucking way...” he moaned, closing his eyes and catching his breath.

She giggled, giving his hips one last longing squeeze before pulling away. “I think your sister’s here.”

Austin shook his head and tugged at the zipper on his jeans. “I’m gonna need a minute.” His eyes widened as the smile on her lips grew. “Distract her for me?”

Casey nodded and smoothed her hair, stepping toward the front door with pink cheeks.
