The fuel feeding the fire behind her eyes ignited, the blue hue of her irises sparkling with excitement. A grin crept along her lips.

“Oh...” she whispered, tiptoeing forward. “Playing hard to get I see, Mr. Templeton.” She fell into his arms and pressed her mouth back onto his—passion emitting from the connection she forced. “Challenge accepted then.” Her palm rubbed against the length in his pants.

Austin gasped, betrayed by his body and the burning desire she ignited within him. He pushed against her, the friction magnifying in his mind as she groaned in his arms. His heart called to hers, screaming for his soulmate.

“Take me upstairs,” she murmured. “I want to show you how much I love you.”

What are you doing to me, Casey girl?

He scooped her small body into his arms as he climbed the stairs to his darkened bedroom. Setting Casey to her feet beside his bed, he sighed, the light from the foyer illuminating the nightstand and the note she’d penned before the wedding.

His heart faltered, each string tightening in his chest as her fingers toyed with the buttons on his shirt and stripped the material from his body. Her nails tickled his skin, trailing down his bare torso until her hands gripped the button on his pants. Warmth cascaded over his body, blanketing him in desire.

Casey sank to her knees and pulled his zipper down with her. “Let me show you,” she repeated, tugging his pants and boxers to the floor. Her mouth closed over him, an instant jolt to his brain sending shivers to wrack his full body.

“Mmmm,” he choked out. “Casey...”

She giggled, the light sound journeying straight to the center of his soul.

Choking on the saliva coating his mouth, he huffed out a breath and pulled himself from her grasp.

I can’t do this. It’s so wrong.

“Case...” He inhaled, bending over to pull her from her knees. “I can’t do this.” His mind raced, deprived of oxygen, dizzied from little sleep, and fueled with hours of alcohol.

“Sure you can,” she whispered, wrapping her arms behind her back. She tugged at her zipper until the yellow fabric floated to the ground. Kicking the garment to the side, she lifted Austin’s hands to cup her bare breasts. Pressing her lips back onto his, she moaned.

But I can’t fucking resist you...

He nudged her backward onto the bed, tugging at her panties until they fell free from her body. She snickered as the weight of him crashed on top of her, his lips pressing into a freckle on her right breast and his grasp digging into the skin beneath her tattoo.

The ringing in his ears grew louder as the blood in his veins hammered through his body where his skin collided with hers.

Casey arched her back and growled in his ear as her fingers dragged through his hair.

You can’t do this, Austin! Ten minutes ago, you decided to break her heart!

“Now, Austin! Please!” she begged, pressing her middle into his arousal.

Sweat coated his forehead and his body warmed, the friction of skin on skin sending a tidal wave of heat to blanket his system, roaring with confliction. He swallowed and pressed his tip to her entry. His gaze caught hers as her lids fluttered open, the impending union clouding her eyes.

He stared into the depths of her soul—her sweet and innocent soul—that desired the chance to burst free and fulfill a dream long buried in her heart, spoken to no one but himself.

I’ve tried to get you to see your potential, Casey girl. I’ve pushed you to keep dreaming. But my words haven’t worked.

She arched her back again, pleading and begging for him to continue. “I want to feel you inside me...” Her mouth found his in the darkness, softly placing her love and desire on his lips, each kiss bathed in trust.

What do I fucking do?

His brain screamed as he pushed himself inside her, the instant ripples of pleasure and pressure building with intensity as she wiggled beneath him.

“I love you.” Her sweet whisper bit into the darkness, her admission of love penetrating his chest and latching onto his heart in the tender, vulnerable moment.

I love you, Casey, more than you’ll ever know. And it’s why I have to break your heart.

In the flurry of heightened passion, the heavy decision squashed his soul.

My words have never worked on you because I haven’t found the right ones. Until now...
