I let go of him, and frantically undid the button.

Never breaking our kiss, he pushed his hand down and cupped me. His fingers pushed into my wet sex. We both sighed and relaxed. Heaven. We stilled. He waited. Slowly, he played with me. Our lips stopped moving but stayed connected. I pulled back and looked him in the eye.

He moved his hands, watching me.

“Jacob.” I whispered. “Jacob, this doesn’t fix anything.”

He stopped.

I waited.

He started to pull his hand away, and I gripped his wrist. “But maybe…promise we’ll talk later?”

He chuckled low in his throat. “Promise.”

His eyelids lowered as his hand began to move again, slowly, expertly. “Jacob, Jacob, Oh, my god, Jacob.”

He moaned. A pained expression crossed his face. “I’ve missed you.”

He kissed me again, grinding the heel of his hand against me, thrusting his fingers deeper. Against my mouth, he groaned.

A light breeze rustled the branches above. He broke our kiss and buried his head in the crook of my neck.

With my back pressed against the boulder, he lifted my left leg and braced me. I sunk down on his hand. Shards of evening light broke through the trees. My eyes fluttered closed, my hips undulating against him.

“Jacob.” It was a plea. “Jacob.”

Wet kisses were feverishly placed against my neck and cheek. My head lolled to the side.

I whimpered, waves of pleasure pulsing through me. I tensed, holding in my scream. A squeak escaped me, and he crushed his mouth to mine as I shook and dropped on his hand. He held me in place as my orgasm shattered me.

I almost laughed with joy. My whole body exhaled.

His forehead dropped to mine as our breaths slowed. Slowly, he pulled his hand from my skort, squeezing my hips gently before buttoning them back up.

“You okay?” he asked as he cradled my face.

“Mmmmmm. Yep.” I nodded.

He traced his finger over the four-inch jagged scar on my collarbone. “Does it still hurt?”

I nodded. “Sometimes.”

“We’re both battle scarred.” He leaned down and kissed my shoulder.

“We lost more than our careers, Jacob.”

He looked at the ground. “I love Mia, and I love our business but it’s starting to feel like I’ve been hiding.”

“I know how you feel. I’ve missed you so much. I felt like you didn’t want me and I acted stupid.”

“I’m so sorry.” His words settled like a weight between us. He barely whispered, “I’m so sorry I left you.”

I wanted to step back into his arms, but the emotional gap between us was still too big for my heart to fit.

“We should talk. We’ve avoided this for a long time.”

He nodded. “We should talk.”
