“So, apart from intercourse being off the table, how about you just let me make you feel good?”

She wasn’t sure it was really a question, since he shimmied back down her body without waiting for an answer. A second later, his mouth was on her once again. His tongue dancing against her most sensitive flesh and any kind of argument that she might have voiced was quickly forgotten.

He played her body like it was some kind of instrument, drawing uninhibited cries from her as he teased and tantalized. He brought her almost to the peak and then backed off until she was babbling and begging, until with a deliberate and skilled suckle on her clit, he finally had her going off like a cork shooting out of a shaken bottle of champagne.

As she panted and sucked in desperate breaths, her chest heaving, he scooted up beside her in the moonlight, enveloped her in his strong, warm arms, and started pointing out the constellations of the stars as if he didn’t have a raging hard on which had seen no action.

And that alone endeared him to her all the more.

Chapter Fifteen

They were late back, of course, and to compound Ellie’s guilt at not making an evening meal for Cody and Syrus the day before, she rose late the following morning too.

“Oh boy! Maybe I need to get myself an alarm clock after all,” she mumbled to herself as she tumbled out of bed in her haste to get up and get breakfast prepared. She didn’t know what the time actually was, but she could tell by the sun that it was way later than she normally got up.

She skipped her shower so that she could hurry downstairs and came to a standstill in the kitchen doorway when she found Cody standing there sliding fried eggs onto a plate while Syrus poured steaming mugs of coffee and Ezra slathered butter on thick slices of toast.

He looked up and gave her a wicked wink, like they were sharing a secret, and Ellie felt herself coloring as images of the evening before immediately floated through her mind.Hercheeks burned even hotter when Cody caught the exchange and glanced speculatively between the two of them.

“Come and sit down and have some breakfast,” he said in a deceptively mild tone that immediately had her on edge.

“But I should be doing this,” she argued.

“Nonsense. It’s done now, so eat while it’s hot.”

Ellie did as she was told. His decisive tone sending a shiver down her spine.

“Did you enjoy your day out yesterday?” he enquired benignly, with the raise of one eyebrow. Much too politely, she thought as she waited for the other shoe to drop. It almost felt like there was a whole other sub context which she wasn’t quite switched onto, but it made her belly quiver, nonetheless.

“Yes, thank you,” she replied with equal courtesy. “It was the most fun I’ve had in forever.” She threw a warm smile at Ezra who was watching the drollery with unabashed interest, his gaze flicking from one to the other like he was watching a game of ping-pong.

“I’m glad to hear it.” Cody flicked her a look and she couldn’t help noticing the wicked twinkle that came into his eyes. “Perhaps you could come and… discuss something in my office after breakfast.” It was said casually, but Ellie just stopped and stared at him with a forkful of eggs halfway to her mouth as that other shoe finally hit the floor. All she could do was nod while the bottom fell out of her stomach.

Throughout breakfast cleanup, Ellie tried not to think about the implications of Cody’s words. Was he mad? Was he teasing? He wasn’t really a teasing kind of person. Did he just feel like it was his turn to spend some time with her?

She tried not to loiter, as she gave the kitchen table one more wipe over than it needed, but looking around, she realized that there was no putting off the inevitable any longer.

She faltered at the doorway when she finally got to the study. Did she knock or just walk straight in? Jeez, why was she second guessing herself suddenly? Taking a deep breath, she straightened her spine and compromised, giving two sharp knocks before she opened the door.

Cody was sitting at his desk, much like he had been the last time he’d called her in here. And his shirt sleeves were rolled up… just like they’d been the last time. Had they been like that at breakfast?

Ellie swallowed. Her heart was fluttering madly in her chest and once again she wasn’t sure if it was from anticipation or trepidation.

“Close the door and sit down, Ellie.” Cody gestured to the chair on the other side of the desk and her mind registered the disappointment as it rushed through her. Well, that answered that question then.

Cody raised a single, sardonic eyebrow as she sat down. Ohboy! Had it shown on her face?

She closed her eyes briefly and composed herself, trying her very best to meet him with a neutral expression.

He contemplated her for long moments, which didn’t help her composure at all.

“I’m sure you remember I told you I would probably find reasons to spank you,” Cody began, looking for all the world like he was just talking about the weather, while Ellie did her best to stop her jaw from dropping.

“I’m sure you also remember that I also said the next spanking would be on your bare bottom.”

She just sat there and stared at him.

“Ellie?”
