I don’t move, and he sighs before darting forward to grab me. He lifts me into his lap, and I tuck my head under his chin as he cuddles me in tight.

“If you know, Vitalis has to tell the boss of his organisation,”I say, feeling safer about using the mind link.“I don’t… last time he came and just took the memory. If I’ve proven I can get those back…”

“What happens the next time they find out we know?”Ryes fills in, and my head jerks in a nod.“How will you feel about keeping the secret from the rest of them? From me, too?”

“Awful.”I hiccup a sob, and he responds by lightly humming under his breath, his tender touches running up and down my back.“I’d hate it, but if it protects him… if it keeps him safe…”

“You’re being thrust into a terrible situation.”

I nod pathetically, and he kisses the top of my head.

“But the difference is, we’re not going to die or be hurt if you keep this secret. He could bekilledif you share, if I share even by accident.”

“I know.”

“Take the memory, ZoZo. Keep the soul witch safe. The bastard owes me when he gets here, once it’s safe, but for now, take my memories away.”

“I don’t know how.”

“He didn’t share?”Ryes asks, and I shake my head. He pushes me away just a little bit, meeting my eyes. His thumb darts out to wipe the tears away, and he winks as he sucks on his thumb.

“No,” I repeat. “I asked, but he brushed over it.”

“Fucking idiot,” Ryes mutters. “Okay, well, I trust you to try.”

“To mess with your mind?” I gasp, and he nods. “What if I mess it up?”

He gives me a soft smile, cupping my cheek in his large hand. “I have absolutely no doubt you’ll do it. All you need to do is eraseVitalisfrom my mind. Not the man, because I’ll need to know of him when you go visit, but the memory of whoVitalisis. You need to be as precise as possible.”

“I’m scared, Ry.”

“I know you are, baby, but this isn’t about us,” he says, patting my cheek gently. “Pull your lacy thong up, and get it done.”

“Lacy thong?”

He smirks, his pale blue eyes darkening as he leans forward to brush his lips against mine. I deepen the kiss, sucking his tongue as he thrusts it into my mouth. I rise up on my knees, letting him tug me into his arms.

We’re breathless when we pull apart, the urgency of our kiss having died down into a sweet moment, and he presses his forehead to mine. “I know you have them.”

“Maybe. But they’re not worn that often,” I say, causing him to groan. “I prefer the boyshorts.”

“Ah, they make your ass look even better,” he says, moaning under his breath.

I giggle and run my hands through his shoulder-length hair.

“Do it,” he whispers, sensing the unease within me. “Protect your other mate, ZoZo. I can handle it.”

I nod, steeling my shoulders back before uttering, “Oblivisci.” I channel all the intent I can, trying to be as specific as possible to limit the damage I could cause.

Ryes blinks slowly before shaking his head a little and grins. “Well, that’s fucking weird.”

“What is?” I demand, grabbing his shoulders in panic. “Ryes? Talk to me!”

The door barges open, the barrier Ryes had us in being torn down as Eirik appears in the doorway. He spots my urgent tone, and races over.

“What’s wrong? What did you find out?”

“Everything,” Ryes says ominously.
