Mael grunts in pain, and that’s when my body kicks itself into gear. I might not be guided by the instincts of my magicae, but that’s not the only part of me.

I’ve known my guys since we were young kids, and I’ve never ever failed to jump into gear when they need me.

There’s nobody coming to save us, not right now, and with the way this man blocks power, well, we’re not going to be able to fight him off with magicae.

The vault is locked, and I have no idea how to open it. If I had access to my magicae… wait, maybe I do. Maybe, just maybe, I can use more than what is contained within myprimordium.

It’s dangerous, sure, but I can’t just sit here uselessly whilst Mael fights for his,for our, lives.

I pull on the magicae within me, going deeper than myprimordiumwhich is affected by the man’s blocking abilities, and going directly to my soul.

Regardless of his power level, I am stronger, and as a soul witch, nothingcan block my connection to a soul. Especially not when said soul is my own.

I close my eyes, and utter, “Aperta.”

The vault opens, but I feel myself growing very weak. It’s different than when I accessed this level of power with Jasper and the plants. This is instantaneous, a sudden decrease in mobility.

“Put it on,” Mael roars before grunting in pain. There’s a maniacal laugh from the man we’re fighting with.

I reach inside the vault, my hands latching to the crown that’s already lighting up in my presence. I rip off the gorgeous tiara from Owlyn, and replace it with my birthright.

Once again, the change is immediate, and the weakness I felt only moments previously has disappeared.

The crown has healed me, and it’s giving me enough power to handle the man who thought he could control me.

“You are darkness,” I say, taking a step forward.

He drops his sword, looking at me with a level of infatuation that causes my entire being to revolt.

My voice sounds hollow, almost like it’s not my own as I speak. It’s creepy, but based on the awed look on Mael’s face, I know he doesn’t think the same.

“You are toxic,” I say next, taking another step forward.

“Queen Elzora,” the man whispers, a vacant look in his eyes as he falls to his knees. Mael walks forward, gripping his sword tightly in his hands. “I pledge—”

Unfortunately, he pledges nothing because myanima nexumstops him from speaking by slitting his throat.

Blood spurts down the man’s chest as both Mael and I watch. One of us in pure fascination, and the other in a terrified horror.

“Thanks for the distraction, Ellie baby,” Mael says, dropping the sword. “It’s been a while since I got to play without my powers, and I truly enjoyed the challenge.”

I think that’s when the day catches up to me. Whether it be the constant murders, the draining of my essence so I could get the crown, or a combination of it all, my body just gives in.

I collapse to the ground, my head banging against the floor, and the echoes ring noisily in my head as I lose consciousness.

Again. This is truly not my week.

RYES

“They’re such pricks,” I say, swinging my arms as Zohar and I walk away from Zoe and Mael.

I’m jealous Mael gets to stay with her because I’d love the hero moment, but I also think that I’ll have a lot more fun doing the killing, so I didn’t bother to whine too much.

Mael’s definitely the weakest of us all. You know, if we ignore the golden runes he has that power him up. I don’t think they count anyway. Until we have some, he’s on an uneven playing field.

Fucking cheat.
