Eirik and Ryes were both more than willing to give me the time to decide for myself, and that’s what I need. They’re both safe spaces, willing to let me figure my own hangups out.

Eirik’s right hand trails up and down my thigh, feather-light touches that send tingles down my spine. Ryes lowers his head to mine, dropping a soft kiss on my cheek and my breathing speeds up.

“Now, when you’re asleep, Ryes will be there to transport you along the bond,” Eirik says, his tone barely louder than a whisper, as Ryes starts kissing down my jaw.

This moment is intimate, butterflies raging in my stomach, as I’m trapped between two of my guys. They’re pulling feelings from me with nothing more than soft kisses and simple touches.

It’s so lovely, so… pure.

I nod my head, clutching Ryes’s hand in mine as he rests his head in my neck. No longer kissing, but still maintaining the closeness. My tone is shaky as I ask, “And what do I do?”

“For now, you just sleep,” Eirik says, squeezing my hip. “If you’re struggling, I’ll cast a spell to help persuade you, but once you’re asleep, Ryes is the one who needs to do the work. He’ll guide you, so don’t worry about that.”

“Okay.”

“Do you need help going to sleep?” Eirik asks as Ryes starts to snore.Oh wow.Eirik smirks, his beautiful plump lips rising upwards as he leans in closer to me.

I give a jerky nod. He lowers his head to mine, his icy blue eyes meeting mine with a hint of a smile on his face. Eirik presses his lips to mine, sweetly kissing me, and as my eyes fall shut he whispers, “somnum” on my lips.

“Hey there, ZoZo,”Ryes says, standing in front of me but, somehow, I only hear his words in my mind. I’ve got absolutely no idea where we are, the sandy beach being somewhere I don’t recognise at all.“We’re dreamscaping, baby. We’re somewhere in your mind—”

“The beach… wait, the zoo,”I say, narrowing my eyes as I spot a tiger walk past us.“This is freaky.”

“Freaky, maybe, but it’s a good tool,”he says, sounding unconcerned. When I look his way, his face is showing a bemused smile, but his whole body is relaxed.“Now, what I need you to do is go back to what you forgot.”

“Okay, that sounds easy enough… but I don’t know what I forgot.”

He frowns, drawing his plump bottom lip between his teeth and narrows his eyes at me. “No, but—”

“You’re talking out loud,” I say, blinking in surprise. “Wait… so am I.”

“We’re both really here, ZoZo. Thisisn’ta dream, and normal rules don’t apply,” he says, causing me to smile. “Now, take a minute to think in your mind. Try to assess for weak spots.”

I try to humour him, and think in my head, trying to just work backwards each day, but if something—or someone—has taken a memory, it could be something as simple as me forgetting lunch.

I’m not sure how Ryes expects me to figure that out.

“Wait, the other day,” Ryes says, sitting up from the ground, his pale blue eyes having widened as something comes to him. “Last week. Wednesday. We were the first ones up—”

“And we were both a little out of it,” I say slowly, and he nods. Excitement lights up in his eyes, and I know he thinks he’s cracked it. I kind of do, too. We both had, not necessarily false memories, but memories that we didn’t truly believe. “Okay, I had class with Necos, and we called Zohar there.”

“Yes.”

“I went to visit the man in my head—”

“He really needs a name,” Ryes interjects.

I get a flash of familiarity, those words tugging at something within me, but it disappears as fast as it appeared.

Do I know his name? Have we already had this conversation?

Ah, the holes in my memory are killing me.

“Yeah. Anyway, I went to visit him, he helped me hide my magicae, and then I came home with Zohar.”

“What next?”

“I think… we had dinner? Pizza, right? Pasta? I… that’s where things get murky.”
