Her panic has me stilling, placing my bags back in the cart. “I’m not moving, Frankie. Tell me what happened. Why are you crying and panicked?”

“You’re still in the store? You didn’t go outside?”

“No, baby. I’m here at the doors, but I’m still inside.”

“Is it snowing?”

What is going on? I glance outside. “Yeah, Angel. It’s snowing.”

“There’s a car—”

“What the—” I jump back as a car slips and slides, skidding sideways, barely missing a guy walking to his car, but his cart is not as lucky. The car slams into it, sending everything flying, stopping feet from where I would have been if I’d exited the store. “Shit!”

“What happened?! Are you okay?”

“Yeah. Yeah. I’m okay. A car nearly hit a guy in the parking lot.”

“That was you.”

“What?! No, it was someotherguy. I’m fine.”

“My dream. I had a dream you were shopping and came out of the store carrying bags and didn’t see the car coming. He hityou,” she sobs. “You… Gabriel… you were—”

“Hey. Hey. Angel. I’m okay. The car didn’t hit me. It was a dream.” It’s not real, but damn if it doesn’t feel a little too real. If I had stepped out—

“But if I hadn’t called you?”

“Well…” It could’ve been me in the parking lot instead of some stranger. “I’m coming home. I’ll be there in twenty.”

“Wait.”

“Yeah, Angel?”

“I think I’m pregnant.”

Well, shit. I didn’t see that coming. It’s gonna take hours for my heart to stop racing. “I’ll get a test. Go play with Maddox and Maddyn. They’ll make you feel better until I get there.”

“Okay.”

“And, Angel?”

“Yeah?”

“No car could take me out. I’m a tough asshole. I’d come home to you no matter how broken my body may be. You feel me?”

“Yeah.” I can hear her smile. “Yeah, Big Man. You’re too tough and stubborn to let a car take you out.”

“Damn straight. I’ll see you in a few.”

“Love you, Gabriel.”

“Love you so fucking much, Angel.”

CHAPTER8

LANDRY AND TAYLOR

She skied a black diamond run today with Gabriel. She ate up that slope as I snowploughed my way down. She was confident and owning her shit.
