Page 90 of Our First Christmas

Everyone in the store probably heard her scream and we were immediately surrounded by people asking for pictures and autographs. My eyes scanned for Ali, wanting to make sure she was okay, but she was nowhere to be found.

Panic settled into my stomach. Had she not been kidnapped a few months ago, maybe I would have been more at ease, but it was still ingrained in me to worry about her and protect her. I yelled for Kace to get his attention, but it was pointless since he was being mobbed as well. He couldn’t hear me, nor could he move, but I could tell he was also looking around for her.

I wanted to yell for her, but calling her name out loud seemed like a bad idea. Maybe she had snuck off to avoid what Kace and I were being bombarded with. We both signed autographs for a minute, smiled, and took pictures. We talked about how we were there to shop for Christmas just like they were, and people gasped at the idea of us doing our own shopping.

Fair enough.

When I looked up again, I saw Ali waving her hands to get our attention. Kace noticed her as well and she pointed toward the exit with a huge smile on her face. Did she think this was funny?

I guess in a way, it was, now that we knew she was safe.

A few more autographs were signed, and I grabbed Kace away from a woman who was rubbing her tits on his arm. Kace used to love that kind of attention from fans, but I could see the clear discomfort on his face now that he had found Ali. Ali’s tits were the only ones he wanted that close to him.

“We gotta go,” I said loud enough that everyone could hear.

Kace turned into me, and I wrapped my arm over his shoulder, guiding him to the door. Once he got away from the lady with the tits, he stood straighter and took the lead. He pulled my arm and together we ran toward the exit.

When we pushed through the doors, my truck magically appeared and we dove into the backseat like Olympians on the high dive. Thank God I had asked Ali to hold my keys in her bag.

“You two are always causing a scene,” she laughed as she drove my truck out of the parking lot.

“I was just thankful you snatched those stockings from my hands and bailed.” Kace was breathing hard, still catching his breath from our sudden sprint. How were we world class athletes and that out of breath?

Adrenaline?

“I found the C right when I heard your name being yelled, so I went to the checkout counter while it was all clear.”

“You…?” I started laughing and couldn’t even finish my thought. “You took the time to check out?”

“We went through a lot of effort to get these stockings before you left.” She lifted the bag that was in the front seat to show us her purchase. “I wasn’t leaving until I had them. Plus, you two made the long lines disappear and I checked out in a snap, so thank you for that.”

My phone started buzzing in my pocket and I pulled it out to see that I was being tagged in several pictures. Kace was looking at his phone as well, so I knew he was getting the same notifications.

I rarely looked at the pictures I was tagged in, but since Ali was driving and I was content, I scrolled to see the pictures we had just taken. I sat up quickly and started laughing, pushing my phone to Kace for him to look at what had me rolling.

“Oh shit,” Kace laughed and put my phone in front of Ali for her to see. Ali just nodded, like she knew exactly what we were looking at and smiled, satisfied with herself.

When I got my phone back, I looked once again at the picture of me and the first fan that called my name. In the background was Ali, intentionally photobombing the picture. She was holding the stocking with the C on it high in the air and covering her face just enough that no one else would know who she was.

Her face had become well known since our united press conference, and even though we knew she would be in the media more, as time went on, we still all agreed to block her face when able—especially until Alan was sentenced.

The original poster of the picture didn’t even mention her in the background, but to Kace and I, it was obvious she was there and happy with her stockings.

“I cannot believe you photobombed that poor woman,” I laughed again.

“She bombarded my shopping trip with my boyfriends. Fair is fair.”

“But next time, let's just order those online.”

CHAPTER6

KACE

Ali jumped around the room, happy her plan was coming together. I winked at her while she checked something off in her red, glittery book with the Christmas tree on it. Somehow, I was both helping her with this project, and being hidden from it as well.

Ali closed her book with a snap and jumped into my arms. “Cam is going to be so excited.”

“I just think it's amazing that you are arranging all this for him.”
