Rain shook her head.

For some reason, the other woman looked amused. “Second floor. Furthest room to the left.”

“What? That can’t be right,” Rain said. “My room has been next to Kieran’s room all this while?”

Scarlett burst out laughing, and Rain didn’t miss the annoyed looks the omegas sent their way. Rain had already stolen the heart of their lead alpha. Of course, it irritated them that Rain had the ear of one of the pack’s powerful enforcers.

“Of course. Didn’t you know? That room used to belong to Gail, Markus’s sister. Kieran ordered her to vacate that room so you would be close to him.”

Another reason for Markus and the other wolves to distrust her.

“What are you waiting for?” Scarlett finally asked her.

“I can’t do that,” she finally said.

“Why not? He misses you, too. Hell, he can’t stop talking about you,” Scarlett said. “Honestly, he reminds me of the time when we were teenagers and he had his first crush.”

Was that true? Did Kieran truly miss her as much as she did?Hold on a second.Rain remembered she had important news to deliver. She gripped the other woman’s arm tightly and took deep breaths.

“What? You’ve decided you want me instead of him?” Scarlett asked. “Is this you confessing you love me?”

“No, can you be serious for a change?” Rain hissed.

Amusement fled Scarlett’s gaze. “What is it, Rain? Has someone been giving you trouble?”

Rain leaned in close to whisper in Scarlett’s ear, “Scarlett, there’s been talk while your group was away. Markus intends to challenge Kieran for his position.”

Her stomach clenched as she said the words. Scarlett didn’t look the least bit alarmed by the news. She patted Rain’s head like she was one of the werewolf pups playing in the yard. Rain brushed her hand away, annoyed.

“Don’t worry, Rain. Kieran knows everything that happens around here, even when he’s gone,” Scarlett said, rising to her feet. “Now why don’t you toss those nerves aside and finally go see him?”

Rain rose to her feet, suddenly feeling unsure. If Scarlett and Kieran weren’t worried, then she had no reason to as well. “I’ll go speak to Kieran,” Rain said.

“Good choice,” Scarlett said. “Maybe I’ll accompany you.”

Rain was about to blurt out she didn’t need an escort, but instead, she shut her mouth. Although Scarlett seemed the same, had Rain’s revelation rattled her after all? It was a quick walk back inside the house and up the stairs to Kieran’s room.

“I’ll leave you to it,” Scarlett said.

Once the other woman was gone, Rain hesitated, then raised her hand. Before she could knock, Kieran opened the door. Was he expecting her?

Rain gulped. Kieran had probably just gotten out of the shower because he only wore a pair of jeans and nothing else. Water droplets ran down his hair, his upper body. She watched a trail of water slide down the brickwork of his abs. A trail of red hair disappeared under his jeans waistband.

Why did it feel suddenly hot all of a sudden? Kieran flashed her a wolfish smile, as if he knew what she was thinking about.

“Come in,” he said, opening the door a little wider to let her through.

Taking a deep breath, she stepped inside. She’d never been in Kieran’s room before. Rain was surprised to find it was no different from the room she occupied. It had the same, basicfurniture albeit the room was a little bigger and had a bathroom attached to it.

“I will take my leave,” said another female voice. Grace. Rain hadn’t noticed the healer at all until she spoke. She’d been so preoccupied with Kieran’s presence.

“One other thing, Grace,” Kieran added before the healer could leave the room.

“What’s that?” Grace asked.

“I am aware of what will take place tonight, so I will only ask you once,” Kieran said. He sounded frighteningly cold now.

Grace paled at his words.
