“Kiss … me.” Her words were little more than a hiss of air.

“What the f—”

Magnus didn’t get the word out before she tangled her fingers into his hair and jerked his head down to crash his mouth into hers.

He was prepared for anger to surge through him. What he didn’t expect was the gut punch of desire that came from her taking full control of the kiss. It was biting—soul searing—from the onset. Unlike any other kiss he’d ever experienced. She demanded everything and took it, plundering his mouth and drawing out what felt like his soul. With the sensation came ajolt of recognition that lanced through him with shock just as the world drowned in black ink.

Chapter Two

Magnus woke with a massive headache and a raging temper.

The images of the night before crashing into his mind only added to the ire and propelled him out of the bed.

There was no sign of the woman.

Where was she? Stealing more of his shit?

He’d barely paused to think before he heard a soft feminine voice speaking cooingly, which was answered by a low bark from Ulf before singing.Singing!

“What the fuck?”

He smelled the deliciously tangled scents of eggs, bacon, and hash browns as he took the stairs down two at a time only to be startled into immobility by the scene before him.

The woman was wearing one of his black t-shirts like a huge baggy dress, doing a strange hobbling dance around the kitchen to a random tune she hummed as she put the finishing touches on breakfast. Ulf barely gave him a glance as he looked up from his filled bowl, blinked at him lazily, and then went back to eating.

The traitorous little shit.

He stood at the bottom of the stairs, staring at the surreal scene. He’d never had anyone else there, let alone a woman who seemed perfectly comfortable to make herself right at home. Magnus didn’t want to admit, even to himself, how it felt kind of nice to have someone else there. He walked back the thought. This was still his place, and she had no right to just do what she pleased.

The impulse to tell her exactly that was stuck in his throat when she suddenly seemed to sense his presence and turned to greet him with a bright smile.

He rubbed the unexpected ache in his chest at the impactof it.

“Morning!” She approached him without a hint of hesitation. Weird because the closer she got, the tinier she seemed to get. He knew from experience that his size usually intimidated women, which he understood. This woman, however, didn’t seem to care that he could probably snap her like a twig. Instead, she pressed a tiny hand to the small of his back and ushered him to the table as if it was something she did every day. “I wasn’t sure what you’d like, but I figured a guy as big as you would like a lot of protein.”

She placed a heavy plate in front of him. “Mas-issge meog-eo.”

His confused glance was met with a lilting laugh.

“Bon apetit!”

This was surreal. Was he still asleep? He had to be. None of this made sense.

She perched on the edge of the polished wood counter and watched him as he stared back at her. Her smile started to slip, and the loss of it caused his stomach to lurch.

Her already milky skin paled further as her startlingly blue eyes grew wide. “Oh, no. Did I get it wrong? Are you vegan or something? No, that’s not right. If you were, you’d hardly have all that meat in the fridge. Did I cook it wrong?” Her expression was puzzled as she stared at him. “You speak English, right? Of course, you do. I’ve heard you speak.” Her nervous babble was oddly endearing.

Completely at a loss for words, he struggled to think of something to say. All he could do was stare, but when she went to take the plate away, he stopped her. Every thought dropped out of his head altogether when she pressed her warm hand to his forehead and peered into his eyes. “I didn’t drain too much did I? I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to.” She forked up a mini mountain of eggs and held it at his lips. “Eat. You need it.”

Her mate.

His eyes were a deep mossy green with shocks of ruby and gold. She’d never seen anything quite like them. They peered into hers, and it was like he could see right to the heart of her. The rest of him was just as incredible. His hair was a mess of cinnamon, hickory, and mocha while his thick beard was a slightly darker mix of the same. Her fingers twitched with the impulse to touch and explore. Not only his beard. The rest of his body was just as intriguing. She wanted to peel off his clothes and get a peek at what she’d felt last night.

She shook it off. He’d been nothing but a gentleman, so she could at least afford him the same courtesy.

And, so far, Nari hadn’t. She tugged at the collar. From the moment he’d touched her, the driving need to regain her strength was all her body would focus on. The most expedient, of course, was to take it from someone. From him. Not exactly something she enjoyed doing. But she’d been dangerously low, and as weak as she was, she’d sensed that Magnus would be able to weather it just fine. She only meant to replenish her energy, but the instant their lips touched, something else took over. Backing away hadn’t been an option. It hadn’t even been a notion in her mind as her body took over. All she wanted was more of him. His touch. His taste. Even that sexy groan that came from him when she deepened the kiss. Because that was what it had turned into. In a flash, it became more than survival. Much more.
