The meeting progressed well, but it was long. Over four hours. I couldn’t wait to chase Kara down, shove my cock in her, and lock her to me. She loved it too. Initiated it all the time.

Palmer slapped my back and gave me a playful shove out of the meeting room.

I swatted him over the ear. “Dickhead,” I said good-naturedly.

“Not my fault you’re pussy-whipped.”

“Jealousy is a curse.”

“I’m not jealous of you.”

“No, you don’t want Kara, but you want a mate of your own.”

He grinned. “Seeing you two together has made me reassess the whole mate thing.”

I ruffled his hair just to stir him up even more. He took a halfhearted swing at me and I ducked. Lucky for him, I understood he was playing in the way we had since we were youngsters together, otherwise, the alpha in me would rip him to shreds.

“See you later, Alpha ass.” He ran out the door.

I rolled my eyes and made my way back to the cabin tostrip before chasing my mate. The delicious scent of my favorite meal wafted across the yard from my house. My stomach rumbled as I opened the door and walked inside.

Kara was in the kitchen, crooning to the music playing on the radio. Everything about the picture was perfect. Her in my house. Her in my kitchen. Justher.

“Kara, you’re here.” I closed the door behind me and flicked the lock. Not that we weren’t safe here but because I didn’t want any interruptions. “And you’ve made dinner.”

She spun, a knife in her hand, which only made me smile more. The serrated blade glinted under the lights of the kitchen where she’d been slicing bread.

A radiant smile lit her face. “I cooked your favorite.”

“I can smell that.”

I stalked her into the kitchen. She backed up to the countertop. I placed my hands on either side of her waist and took her lips with mine. The kiss was ravenous. As hungry as I was, she met me stroke for stroke of her tongue. When I’d coaxed a sigh from her, I stepped back. The knife clattered to the counter, all but forgotten after my kiss.

I loved that I did that to her.

“Sit.” She shooed me out of the kitchen.

It was only then I saw the candlelit dinner setting on the table. I sat down as she demanded, as this was amusing me. She slathered the sliced bread with butter and carried it to the table, set the plate in the center, then returned to the kitchen. I popped the cork on the bottle of wine, causing her to startle at the sound. She giggled before coming back with a steaming serving pot.

“Dinner smells almost as good as you,” I said.

She ladled a helping onto my plate, then hers. I tugged her onto my lap before she sat down.

“What’s all this about?” I raised an eyebrow as I spanned her waist with my palms, keeping her in place.

She wet her lips, a quick flick of her taunting tongue. I’d make her put that tongue to good use tonight before I knotted with her.

Kara placed her palm on my chest over the alpha tattoo. Even though she couldn’t see it right now, she knew exactly where the design was, since she’d traced the pattern many times.

“I wanted to thank you, and…”

“You don’t need to thank me for anything. You’re my mate.”

She smiled tenderly. “You say that all the time, and I finally realized I am your mate.”
