“I am going with Ivor,” Nisha shouted. “Please do not worry about me. I am safe with him. And I’ll be happy with him.”

“No. No. You can’t.” Her mother tried to go to Nisha, but her father held her back.

“I will come and visit you soon, my dear parents. I love you so much, and I respect you, but I cannot deny my heart.”

She leaped onto Ivor’s back, her slight weight reminding Ivor of how delicate she was.

“Goodbye!” she called.

“Wait!” Her father stood. “Please. Wait.”

“No, we have to go. A dragon in the city has already caused enough of a stir.”

Ivor stretched his wings wide, then burst upward, flapping hard and gaining height rapidly. He circled the wedding venue, the aisle, the burned marigolds, and the toppled chairs. Then just for the hell of it, he blasted the marquis, setting it alight.

The chef and several waiting staff members ran from the entrance as it glowed bright and wild.

“Go!” Nisha yelled. “Go, Ivor. Before they come for you.”

He didn’t know who she meant. Press or police, military or science experts. No human had ever worried him in the past. But he did as she’d asked, eager to get his woman as far from her foiled wedding as he could.

Chapter Eight

Nisha was trembling. She’d never disobeyed her parents in her life. Always the good girl, the dutiful daughter, careful never to bring even a splinter of shame.

Yet now she’d blown all of those years of being on her best behavior right out of the water. She’d left her own wedding—one that had taken months to organize, save up for, and plan—on the back of a dragon.

And I couldn’t be happier.

She gripped Ivor tighter as he soared over the highest peaks of the Brecon Beacons. With the wind in her face, her headdress flying out behind her, she felt like a princess from one of the stories she’d read as a child.

Except she knew full well this story was going to get X-rated very soon. The desire in Ivor’s eyes matched her desire for him. Last night had been good, but it had only scratched the surface of their need for each other.

They were destined to be together. Her body cried out to connect with his properly. To do what she’d been waiting all these years to do, with the man she would grow old with.

Llanarch Castle came into view.

Home.

Ivor landed once more on the turret, and Nisha slid off. Within a few seconds, he shifted into his human form, a cloud of smoke swirling around him. It was quickly lifted away on the breeze.

“My love. Are you well?” He reached for her, pulled her close, and dipped his face to hers.

“Yes. Yes. I have never been better. I hadn’t realized what a weight it was on my shoulders, this marriage to Rishi. And now it’s not happening, I feel light, as if I too could fly.”

He smiled. “That marriage could never have happened. You are my mate, and for the record, you can fly. Whenever you want to. Just ask, and I’ll take you wherever you want to go in the world.”

His lips pressed down on hers. A gentle kiss to start with that soon heated. His tongue probed, found hers, and he groaned as though the taste of her thrilled him.

Nisha clung to his wide shoulders. Wrapped in his arms, she felt both safe and exhilarated. “Ivor. I love you so much. I’m so glad you came for me.”

“When I woke and you weren’t there, it was like my heart had been ripped from my chest. Finding you was the only thing I could do. If I hadn’t, I’d have gone insane.”

“I don’t want us to ever be apart.”

“We won’t be. We will marry … today.”

“Today?”
