“You’re all mine, Cindy. Allmine.”

Epilogue

Cindy - One Month Later

My fingers are tremblingas I ring up a customer. All of the business Eli brought to us has made word spread and we’re getting more business from a ton more customers, everyone from the random dude who need to rent a lawnmower to contractors who need bigequipment.

My elbow knocks against the stapler on the front desk and it goes crashing to the ground and all of the staples fly out. At least I don’t have to actually pick up every single staple. We aren’t counting pennies anymore. We’re still counting dollars, but it’s nice to not have to be so careful with how many post-it’s I’musing.

“I’m sorry, just one second,” I say as I crouch down behind the desk. I stand up and see Eli standing there. I run around the counter and fling myself into his arms. That’s bad customer service, but I just couldn’t helpmyself.

This month has been torture and it’s been amazing. We talk every day. We text every hour. I tell him every stupid fleeting thought that passed through my mind and he acts like it’s some huge revelation that could change the world or cure diseases. He tells me about every step of the progress his crew report to him about the house and then he asks me my opinion on everything they tell him. I go down there a few days a week and it’sbeautiful.

“I missed you,” I say as he rocks me back and forth. He kisses the top of my head. Dad’s out fishing. I’ve actually convinced him to leave me alone in the store a few times aweek.

“Cindy, I fucking missed youtoo.”

I never expected that my life could change so dramatically in a month. I was happy before, even though everything was crap. And I’m happy now, and everything isn’t crap anymore. After everything that’s happened to me, between my mom, my dad getting injured, I knew after everything that happened, I’d always be happy because I had people who loved me and who Iloved.

But now I have something else. I have something better than love. I’minlove. I can’t believeit.

“I’m sorry,” I say to my customer, “I will be with you in just a fewmoments.”

“There he is,” Dad says, pointing his cane at Eli. Eli jogs toward him and shakes hishand.

“I thought you were out!” I say toDad.

“I was. I just got back. I got a few good catchestoday.”

“Hey, I have to tell you something,” Eli says. “There’s been a change of plans with the house. I’m not sellingit.”

My face falls. He’s put so much into that house. He had an important client and he was soexcited.

“Did the buyer pull out?” I put my hand on hisshoulder.

“No, Cindy. I’m keeping the house. Forus.”

My eyes widen as I throw a glance towardDad.

“Ah, I already knew,” Dadsays.

“I don’t understand,” I say as my heart pounds in my chest. “You…knew? You knew what, exactly?”

“I told him,” Eli says with a serious look on hisface.

“You told him what,exactly?”

He take a step toward me and narrows his eyes on mine. His gaze heats me up from the inside-out as he gets down on one knee. My heart is pounding. I feel hot tears as they begin to stream down mycheeks.

“I told him that I was coming back for hisdaughter.”

Eli opens the little red box to reveal a princess-cut diamond. It’s simple. It’s classic. It’s beautiful. I look into Eli’s eyes. Clear, bright, honest, true.

“Cindy Dawkins. I love you. I’ve always loved you, but now it’s something more. I fell in love with you a month ago and I want to keep you in my life forever. You’re everything to me. You’re everything and more. Will you marryme?”

“Oh my god,yes!!!!!”

I crouch down and throw my arms around him and he stands up, spins me around, and presses a deep, long kiss to mylips.
