“When you’re an omega, Veronica, you can’t leave without your Alpha. You need to go back to him and stay at his side!” he bellows like he’s got some sort of control over my life.

“I don’t need an Alpha to protect me,” I say, standing up, straightening out my sweater.

“Yes. You do. Now go back to him,” Neill commands me like he did with Sadie.

“Them,” I whisper, collecting my purse.

“I’m sorry, what was that?” he says, raising an eyebrow.

“Back to them. As in more than one Alpha.” I watch Neill’s face dip, like he’s concerned, but I don’t stick around to see why. I put the book back and head out the way I came. I give Mandy a quick wave and leave the library to find my way somewhere else.

When I leave the library, I see him. Dash, standing across the street. Anger burns in me as I cross the road to get to him. “I told you I needed time and to not follow me.”

“You specifically said not to follow youintothe library. I didn’t.” Dash offers me a hand, and I look around to see if Sadie is still lingering around.

“I can’t take your hand in public,” I say, moving around him to make my way toward the car.

“Ronni.” Dash says my name, but I can’t talk to him. I needed time away, and I didn’t get it. If it hadn’t been for Neill then I’m not sure what Sadie would have done.

Will she make my life worse now? Will she tell the entire school about what she smelled? Why is she a female Alpha, but I’m a fucking Omega?

I climb into the car, shutting the door in frustration, feeling nothing but pity for myself. I should’ve stuck to my guns and just kept my head down and waited for school to end and left. Instead I find myself tangled in a mess of, well, I don’t really know what to call it. Am I in a relationship with all of them? How does that work with two brothers, their father, and a friend?

Letting out a sigh, I curl up in the seat as Dash climbs in. “Where do you want to go, Ronni?” he asks. I can’t get away from them, so there’s no point anymore.

“Home.” I choke back the tears I desperately want to cry.

He doesn’t say anything else, he just starts the car and drives us home. I sit there staring out the window with my knees tucked under my chin. I need more information on what I am. Am I more than just a fuck to them? Or am I just here to be their broodmare? Pumping children out until I can’t anymore?

The look on Darrell’s face when we pull into the driveway is one that makes me not want to get out of the car. “Come on. It’s best to just get it over with,” Dash says as I hesitate to open the door.

“How much trouble am I about to be in?” I ask, swallowing the lump in my throat.

My door flies open. “Where the fuck have you been?” Darrell’s voice is deep and terrifying.

“I took her to the library. She wanted to see if she could find a book to read. She was bored with the ones that she has,” Dash says, covering for me. I look up with fear at Darrell.

“Get your fucking asses in the house.” He pulls me from the car and shoves me in the direction of the front door, slamming the car door behind me.

“Darrell,” I cry out as he puts a hand around the back of my neck.

“Veronica, if you say the wrong thing right now, I might just lose my cool,” he growls.

I snap my mouth shut, this is himnotlosing his cool? I’m ushered into the living room and shoved to the couch. I squeal as I fall to the couch. Mitch rushes to my side, letting a growl escape his lips as he looks up at Darrell.

“Don’t push me, boy,” Darrell growls back.

“I had two fucking rules. Don’t fuck Veronica until she comes into her heat,” he holds up a finger, “and don’t let her leave this house without my knowing once she’s gone into heat.” He puts up a second finger. “Both rules have been broken. And someone needs to pay for it.”

“I didn’t know about the rules,” I say, trying to keep myself from whatever Darrell is thinking about doing.

“No you didn’t, and as the omega, you shouldn’t have to be told to tell your Alphas what you want. If you want or need anything all you have to do is ask,” Darrell snarls.

“How was I supposed to know? I literally know next to nothing about all of this,” I spit back.

“Lolli.” Colson says my name, pulling my attention away from Darrell. “Don’t challenge your Alpha.”

“So what the fuck am I supposed to do then, Colson? Sit here waiting for my heat to kick in, then let the lot of you fuck me?” I step up to him, shoving at his chest. “What’s the point of any of this? Hmm? I no longer have any free will? I MUST do what you say, always?” I shove at him again, nearly on the brink of tears. “Am I not my own person anymore?” I feel the swell in my eyes. “I’m nothing anymore. I had one thing, and it was taken from me.” I start hitting him in the chest as I let out my tears. All I had was my free will, and I don’t have that. I had the library, but Sadie ruined that. “She’s gonna tell everyone,” I cry harder, feeling my knees buckle beneath me.
