“I know who you are, and so do they. You have to get out of here. They’re coming for you.”

CHAPTER TWENTY

SUMMER

After the one-minute head start that the black-haired woman had asked for ticked by, I rushed from the dressing room and onto the sales floor, where everyone was. I had no reason to get the other woman shot, and I was pretty sure either security or the wives would shoot first and ask questions later.

“What happened?” Emiliana dropped the bra she’d been holding and pulled her gun out.

El stood next to me, a similar expression on her face, her gun also at her side. When I met everyone’s questioning gaze, I noticed they all had weapons out. Salespeople cowered behind whatever was closest, and a few of the security detail slipped behind me and into the changing room.

Wow. I had no idea they would react so quickly. “I’m fine.” I held up my hands, not sure why. “A woman came into the dressing room and warned me that we had to leave now, that they’re coming.”

“Who?” a guard asked. I knew he was the captain of someone’s security but couldn’t remember which one. The others closed in, surrounding us.

“I don’t know. She didn’t give me a name. But she had black hair that fell to midback and an unusual shade of purplish-blue eyes. She was my height, so five five.”

“Mia Tucci,” El said. “This changes things. We need to get out of here now.”

“Wait.” I bit my lip. The guards herded us toward the door, and I rushed my words. “Can we have the lingerie brought to us?”

Sofia snickered as she nudged me to keep walking. “I’ll call when we’re out of here and have the salespeople box everything and send it in a few hours.”

Lil grimaced. “Just when I was going to go try stuff on.”

Nicole shook her head, honey-blond hair tumbling over her shoulders. “Move it, Lil.”

Security made a line on both sides from the door to the two SUVs we would squeeze into. We rushed out, the girls covering with their guns too.

An evil grin stretched across Sophia’s face as we rushed outside with guards covering us from every angle. Her hand latched onto a guard’s arm that was next to her. “Tom can go with Nicole.”

Oh, so that was Nicole’s crush. Nice. I looked at the Dean Winchester look-alike. I could see it. I shared a grin with Sofia, who was snickering. Tom sent her a you’re-gonna-pay look, but by the way he pulled Nicole close and moved toward another SUV, I could tell the attraction wasn’t one-sided.

It took less than two minutes from the time I’d told them about Mia until we were in the vehicles.

Once we were in the car and speeding toward home, El frowned as she met my gaze. “This is a very interesting development.”

“Agreed.” Emiliana weighed in from my right. “We’ll need to figure out if the Tucci family is working with the Amatos or if Mia was acting on her own.”

“And was anyone even there?” Lil asked. “There were no gunshots. How did they think they would ambush us?”

“Maybe the way they did Emiliana—from the dressing room, exactly how Mia gained access. Or through the salespeople,” Lil said. “I guess Mia pretended to be one and we didn’t see her, or she hid somewhere our security overlooked.”

“We’re going to need to question the person who delivers the lingerie.” Sofia rubbed her hands over her face. “I should have grabbed that bralette in white. What was I thinking?”

Emiliana laughed. “Only you. Always sidetracked by clothes.”

Sofia grinned then playfully shoved her.

“I don’t think Mia meant any harm.” I realized I hadn’t told them everything in the heat of the moment when we were trying to get the hell out of there. “Maybe the Tucci family isn’t involved, and she came here on her own. Because, you guys, she was frightened.”

Everyone fell silent as they digested what I’d told them. By the time we’d arrived at Nicole’s house, no one had said a word. The guys burst from the front door with fierce expressions and fiercer weapons then rushed us inside.

Luc was shirtless, his chest glistening with sweat, and I lost the ability to think as he wrapped his arm around me and pulled me against him, shielding my body as we moved into the house. I tugged at it so he would loosen his grip.

The door slammed shut, and Stefano’s voice boomed through the foyer. “What the hell happened?”

Emiliana was pressed against his side, as the rest of the wives were with their husbands. Nicole strode through them in the direction of the kitchen. “We’re fine. I’m getting the coffee going.”
