That was it, the moment time stopped for both of us. I saw it in her eyes. She felt it, the same as me. We’d done something we couldn’t take back. Annulment, divorce, none of those things would change what we’d experienced here and now.

“Come on, lass. We have a marriage to celebrate.”

I offered her my arm, and she frowned at me, giving me a long look before sighing and placing her palm on the crook of my elbow.

“Oh, what the hell. Take me home, husband.”

I walked her out of the courthouse and back to my car, my nerves finally settling as she slid into the passenger seat and I rounded the arse end of the classic Corvette. Once I was seated, I took a deep breath and exhaled. “That was easier than I thought,” I admitted.

“Did you think marrying me was going to be a chore?”

I laughed. “No. But I expected you to give me more trouble about it before agreeing.”

She smirked. “Oh, don’t worry. I’m sure I’ll be more trouble than I’m worth before this year is up.”

Starting up the engine, I smiled as my beautiful baby began to purr. “That’s my girl.”

“You have a weird attachment to this car.”

“And you have a weird attachment to food.”

She shrugged. “Fair.”

I drove her home, my whole body feeling the weight of what I’d just done. I was fucking married. Sure, she’d already dumped me once, but that was fine. She didn’t have to love me. She just had to tolerate me and be on my arm for every game, function, and public appearance for the next twelve months. There were worse things I’d dealt with than Becca Barnes. In fact, she was much more of a delight than she wanted me to believe.

“Are we debuting our newly minted status tonight at the auction?” she asked as I pulled into her driveway.

“Aye, lass. That’s the whole reason for the rush.”

“Then I guess I’d better cancel myMeet-Cupiddate tonight.”

I glared at her. “You’d better cancel any and all dates for the next three-hundred-and-sixty-five days, Mrs. Savage. You’re mine.”

“In name.”

“In every way that counts. No one gets to touch what’s mine. Not my skates, my stick, not my wife. Do you understand?”

She sighed and got out of the car. “Well, it’s a good thing I have a great vibrator, then. It’s gonna be a long year.”

The mention of her playing with toys brought to mind all sorts of things I shouldn’t be thinking. Me helping her with those toys. Her showing me how they worked. Us playing together.

Fucking hell, I had a cockstand the size of the Eiffel Tower, and if she looked my way before I could adjust myself, she’d know exactly what kind of lecherous prick I was.

“What are you doing?” she asked as I followed her to her door.

“I’m walking you home, then I’m gonna pop to the loo. And grab a bite before I head home.”

“You don’t have to walk me home.”

“Aye, lass. I do. You’re my wife now. That means I take care of you.”

Her gaze shifted to me as she unlocked her front door. “You don’t have to take care of me. I’m a grown-up.”

“That’s right, you are. Now let me inside. It’s baltic out here.”

“You are such a baby. It’s not that cold.”

I cocked a brow but held my tongue because she let me inside. “Where’s the loo?” I asked, shrugging out of my coat.
