“I don’t see that happening,” I mutter, upset with myself that I’m so mad at Slater. I was looking forward to time with him—more than I realized.

Which scares me.The disappointment I felt when Slater bowed out was so huge that it took my breath. I don’t know what to do with that. I feel almost panicked. What if I start something with Slater that I can’t get out of?

Worse…What if I don’t want to get out of it?

“Babe, give me your code.”

I sigh and rattle off the numbers to unlock my phone. I watch as his fingers move nimbly over the screen, stepping closer to me. I wait for him to hand my phone back to me, but instead he pulls me back against his body and slides my phone back into my pocket. His hand—and other parts of him—feel massive as he palms my ass, making my skin burn.

“I want you Marigold,” he literally purrs. “Make no mistake about it, woman, I want the fuck out of you. It’s just I know you’re worth the wait. I can wait.”

“Nice of you to make that decision for the both of us, Bat-Boy,” I mutter, still upset.

“You want to come back to my place now then you tell your brother to fuck off and we’ll go. Still with everything I’ve learned about you, family is important. That means I’m trying to move slow here.”

My eyes narrow as I realize what he just said. “What do you mean, everything you’ve learned about me?”

His beautiful lips spread into that easy smile that always grabs my attention and sends butterflies fluttering in the pit of my stomach. “I mean I’m learning everything I can about you, and I like every damn thing I find out.”

“Learning?” I squeak out as he squeezes the cheek of my ass again.

When I was in high school, there were these couples that would walk the halls with their hands in each other’s pockets. I always thought it was weird. Although, I can admit that I wondered what it would feel like to have someone so crazy about me there needed to be a constant touch between us. Now, with Slater, it’s something that could quickly become addicting.

“Marigold,” Green growls. “Let’s go.”

I lay my head down against Slater’s chest. “I’m really starting to not like my brother,” I mutter.

“Tell him to take a hike and let me take you to my place.”

“So, you’re leaving it all up to me,” I sigh.

“Everything we do will be up to you.”

“Including running away?” I ask before I can stop myself.

“You can run, Ace, but you better believe I’ll come after you.”

“You don’t believe in moving slow, do you, Slater.”

“Well, I thought we had been. You seem to be giving me a green light, so I’m not going to let you look back.”

“Slater stop groping my sister’s ass!” Green calls out.

“Green, leave me alone before I kick your ass,” I yell back. My body moves against Slater’s as he laughs. When I look at him, his humor makes his eyes sparkle. “If we do this, it doesn’t mean anything,” I warn him, ignoring the panic I feel as I say the words.

One of his eyebrows cocks up and I can tell he’s not a fan of what I just said. Crap, maybe I shouldn’t have listened to Kage. “Say what?”

I pull away slightly and his hand leaves my pocket. I instantly miss it.

“I was thinking we could be kind of a friends with benefits arrangement.”

“Marigold Lucas, are you offering to be my fuc—”

I slap my hand over his lips. “Keep your voice down,” I huff, and I know my cheeks are bright pink because I can feel the heat on them. “I’d rather you not announce what we will or won’t be doing to the world, Bat-Boy.”

His dark eyes just keep staring down at me. I’m pretty sure I upset him. Then, something flickers in his eyes. I see it—even though I have no idea what it is. He grabs my hand, kisses my palm, teasing it with his tongue.

“If that’s how you want to play this, we can do that. Although I have a few demands of my own,” he finally says as he brings our hands down to his hip.
